Did Marine Fauthoux's stellar play against Team USA just ignite a new fire in Victor Wembanyama?

While French men lost to Team USA in men’s basketball yesterday, they can have their revenge as both nations are locking horns in the women’s basketball final as well. And now, French players have surprised the US with a strong performance on the court. Their men’s team star player, Victor Wembanyama, is courtside to cheer and couldn’t resist from celebrating a fabulous effort.

In the third quarter, it was Marine Fauthoux who stunned everyone with a brilliant three-pointer which expanded her team’s lead over the US. Wembanyama was spotted living that moment as it must have come as an ointment to yesterday’s loss against the Americans. As the match progressed, France dominated Team USA, especially with the defense as Team USA was already forced for 12 turnovers with 5 minutes left in the second quarter. As Wembanyama cheers for the players, the French himself had a tough moment last night.

Yesterday, France locked horns with Team USA in the men’s basketball final and had a disappointing result when the game finished. Nevertheless, Wembanyama’s side did give their best even being the better team at least in the third quarter, scoring more points than the US. The French star himself took charge of his team as he topped the scoring charts in that game, no one even from the opponents’ side equaled Wembanyama’s score of 26 points.

But eventually, his efforts were not enough as France fell short of 11 points at the end. Now, as his nation had the opportunity to avenge his and the men’s team’s loss, he is making the most of it with his presence in the game and appreciating the brilliant efforts. But, did the revenge get complete?

It seems that Fauthoux’s three-pointer was a short-lived happy moment for French supporters as they later succumbed to Team USA by just a single point. Being physically tough and defensively compact, France showed an utter determination in the finals. The best moment came when they were ahead of Team USA with a 10-point gap during the third quarter, but it didn’t last long.

Did Marine Fauthoux's stellar play against Team USA just ignite a new fire in Victor Wembanyama?

Have an interesting take?

Wembanyama must have got glimpses from last night when Team USA took the lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. After a sloppy play, the French players ended up giving free throws to the opponents and that’s how the Americans made their final comeback. In the final couple of minutes, the US regained a comfortable lead of four points against France. However, there were similar efforts like Wembanyama made today also by Gabby Williams.

Gabby Williams showed incredible spirit in the final when her two-point shot cut the deficit to just one point. It was a crucial moment—if she’d been a step further back, that shot could have tied the game against the Americans. The French forward scored 19 points and topped the scoring charts for her team. Victor Wembanyama might have hoped the French women’s team would avenge their loss, but they’ll have to settle for silver—just like the men’s team did earlier.
