Is the WNBA missing out on a dream team with Collier and Stewart not reuniting?

For the second time in a row, Team USA’s group has proven how the UConn alums do it. Specifically, the starting duo of Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Another thing that this pair has confirmed is how they both can merge business with basketball through their Unrivaled league. As the month of their tip-off comes closer, we are getting newer information on the league’s operations, every passing day. But for one, we have the latest and rather disappointing news for some.

The Unrivaled will kick off in January 2025 when the WNBA will already be in the offseason. The 6-team league which will play in the 3×3 format will host as many as 30 stars from the WNBA. However, the founders themselves will not be on the same team. Answering questions from a fan on her X account, the reigning Commissioner’s Cup MVP confirmed the update herself.

She tweeted, “There’s a selection committee that splits the teams by position & skill. Unfortunately Sunday may be the last time me and Stewie play together until National team starts back up again 🥲” The fan had asked about the selection process. Is it going to increase the interest or lower it? We will find out when the games really start.

However, the defense of Collier and the offensive prowess of Breanna Stewart will be a clash worth watching. Another factor that will enhance the entire experience of watching these professionals play is the style. Here are the players so far for the Unrivaled and what they will need to learn.

There could be many reasons for a WNBA player to get into the Unrivaled League. For Angel Reese, it was her chance to play in the 3×3 format. For many, it will be the opportunity not to go overseas in the offseason and earn double the WNBA salary at home. The league is going to consist of six teams of 5 each considering the 30 slots available.

Have an interesting take?

So far, Breanna Stewart and Collier have welcomed ten massive names into their league. Including them, Chelsea Gray, Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Rhyne Howard, Kahleah Copper, Jackie Young, and Angel Reese are now Unrivaled tagged. News about Paige Bueckers getting a piece of the pie also broke out. However, the website does not yet reflect her name yet. Probably because she still has her final NCAA season to take care of.

As for Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, they will be on the same team only for the USA as of now. The duo face France on Sunday and they go for their tenth Olympic gold. Nevertheless, it will be captivating to watch the traditional 5×5 players try their hands on the 3×3 format.
