On July 4, Kelsey Plum stated, “It’s a unanimous vote this year [for her as MVP], you feel me? Just saying,” in a media conference. For her, Wilson stood as the sole contender for MVP this year. And she wasn’t wrong. Ever since returning from the Olympics victory, the 2024 Paris gold medalist has been more dominant than ever. She’s been consistent in giving up everything that comes between her and playoff spots, even in her fashion walk through the tunnel. Now that she’s reserved a berth for the Aces, Plum once again is there to appreciate her.
After nearly two months, Plum once again spoke up about Wilson’s impressive gameplay. The league’s leader in scoring with an impressive 27.5 points per game, Wilson’s performance is enough for Plum to award her MVP. “I mean, unanimous MVP, but unanimous MVP as a human being,” Plum told Dime after helping the Aces secure a 72-67 win against the Sun.

Today’s game was notable as for Plum herself, as she overtook the scoring leader in points. While Plum had 27, Wilson managed 20 points. Although winning a playoff spot for the Aces is credited to Wilson, today’s win was made possible by Plum. Thanks to her 8 of the 15 shots, the Aces extended their win streak to three. Despite all the excellence on the court, Wilson’s dominance is eye-catching for Plum.
“She’s just a light. Just the type of human being she is. Y’all, we really need to cherish what’s happening live,” she added. Most likely, her down-to-earth behavior is also influenced by Wilson. She once claimed that even her 28 points seem normal compared to Wilson’s gameplay on court. But are Plum’s claims enough to get the Aces their third consecutive WNBA championship title?

Wilson’s Stellar Season Fuels Aces’ Playoff Push
Despite claiming a playoff spot, the Aces still have a long way to go, especially as Wilson and company stand at 4th in the WNBA standings. With Wilson excelling for the Aces, putting up 20 points and 53.3% FG in the recent game, the Aces have quietly won four games in a row. Now with a record of 21-12, the Aces have a chance to break ties against the Storm on September 15th.
No.1 New York Liberty and the most dominant post-break, Indiana Fever line up against the Aces next. They would most likely face the Storm in the playoffs again, with a 2-1 series in their favor. But alongside championship aspirations, Wilson is also eyeing the MVP title.

What’s your perspective on:
Is A'ja Wilson the greatest WNBA player of our time, or does she still have more to prove?
Have an interesting take?
“It would be incredible,” Wilson said on the thought of joining Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson for the most MVPs. “Just having talks with those GOATs and those Hall of Famers has been truly special, and to now have a chance for my name to be alongside them at such a young age is something I don’t take for granted.”
She is in the top 4 in points, blocks, rebounds, and steals, while topping the charts in the former two. The fourth-place vote in the MVP race last year had really got to the reigning champion, forcing her to dedicate her off season in hopes of overturning the results. Looks like she is inches away.
