The Seattle Storm will lock horns with the Washington Mystics on Saturday. Both the teams have gotten off to shaky starts, and the game is much anticipated for their rivalry. However, that is not all. Another reason that the game will attract viewership is the coveted clash between former University of Connecticut Huskies teammates Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards. Taking cognizance of the same, Muhl reflected on Edwards’s turbulent luck.

Muhl was present during a post-practice session on Friday when she addressed the elephant in the room. She was questioned about playing against her former teammate. And her reply just proved that there is no love lost between the two.

“Oh, my God! I’m very excited. Aaliyah’s been doing so great. I’m very proud of her. The way she’s you know… melted into that team and she looks so comfortable and um, she deserves the world. And you know, she knows how highly I think of her and her um work ethic and I have a lot of respect for her um because she’s one of those rare players that… not rare players… a lot of players don’t get the respect that they deserve but like she’s one of those that um, never got never got the respect that she deserved even in college and I feel like right now too like people are not talking about her enough,” Muhl stated.

Edwards and Muhl played together for the Huskies from 2020-24. The two were roommates when they participated in the NBA Academy Women’s Program in 2019, as per Courant.com. And since then the former roommates have shared massive respect for each other. After that, they landed at the Huskies and the bond between them strengthened. As per Muhl, Edwards was just quiet, shy, to herself a little bit”. Not only her nature, but her gameplay also shows that she deserves more.

While the Huskies had prominent players like Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, it was Edwards who had taken the onus of the team in their absence. She came into her prime during the 2023-24 season when she averaged a whopping 17.6 points per game with 9.2 rebounds per match. Resting on her brilliant performance, Edwards was the sixth overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft by the Washington Mystics. And most of their knowledge about each other will be tested during the game.

Nika Muhl’s clash with Aaliyah Edwards will be a highly-watched game

While the Storm have lost 3 games and won just 2, the Mystics have lost all 5. This makes the tussle all the more exciting since both teams are desperately looking for a win to set the tone for the remaining games. The game will start at 9 PM ET on Saturday and will take place at Climate Pledge Arena.

The other player to watch out for in the game will be Sami Whitcomb who is a star figure for the Storm. She showed her brilliance with 10 and 11 points in her most recent games versus the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty.

It will be interesting to see which team will win the game and hopefully, Edwards will charm all with her amazing gameplay and announce her arrival with hearty celebrations on the big stage.
