Angel Reese has been a marquee amongst the many when it comes to women’s professional basketball league. However, despite a saturated Target Center in Minneapolis, the fans were not able to partake in the excitement. The WNBA announced on Thursday that most of the preseason games, including the Chicago Sky vs Minnesota Lynx, will not be broadcast. This includes both the WNBA app through League Pass and the TV. So how did a whopping number of 200,000 people around the globe enjoy the 40 minutes?

The X account of Front Office Sports reported that a lady in the stands started a live feed on her account. While it is not apparent if the intention behind the live display was limited to her friends and family alone, thousands of fans took advantage of it.

The FOS captioned their tweet, “Tonight’s Chicago Sky-Minnesota Lynx preseason game wasn’t available on TV or streaming. More than 200,000 people watched it on this fan’s live stream, shot from the stands with her iPhone.”

The X user who calls herself a “really big fan of the Lynx and Timberwolves” certainly saw a happy ending tonight. The Minnesota Lynx left a sweet victory for the home crowd, winning 92-81. But Angel Reese was not the only rookie who made a debut in this matchup. Let us look at the performances of all the rookies.

Angel Reese and other 2024 draftees steal the show

In total, five rookies opened their WNBA careers in the game between Minnesota and Chicago. For the winners tonight, it was Utah’s Alissa Pili and Louisville’s Kiki Jefferson. The Lynx had a decent strategy in place when they drafted the Samoan hooper. They wanted to bolster their 3-point approach in the game and that is exactly what she did tonight.

While she could not make any successful deep shots tonight, she attempted 5 threes. Pili also added 2 points and 1 rebound in 13 minutes. At the same time, Jefferson added 4 points and 1 board in just three minutes of floor time.

On the other hand, while Chicago did take an L home, their rookies made noise in the Target Center. Angel Reese almost captured a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 9 rebounds as a starter. Her SEC rival Kamilla Cardoso added 6 points and 4 rebounds in 13 minutes. Adding more balance to the team was Brynna Maxwell, who contributed 2 points in six minutes on the floor.

A win or loss is very much dependent on luck as well. And being a team game, the group’s collective effort can also tip the game. Nevertheless, the 2024 draftees this year were already coming on high notes from their successful college careers. And looks like they are already in the form of wreaking havoc on the professional floors.
