A late move at the WNBA trade deadline turned into a once-in-lifetime opportunity for Myisha Hines-Allen. She arrived from Washington less than a week ago and got to be part of Maya Moore’s jersey retirement night. The entire experience of meeting the legend in person left a lasting impression on the newly-minted Lynx. After a day to let it all sink in, Hines-Allen was on the Locked On Women’s Basketball podcast to talk about it.
“It felt really good,” said Myisha, still in disbelief of where she was only a few days ago. “I just kept thinking like, I was able to play with all these ladies, like, I mean against all these ladies, you know one year. Like just to be able to be on the same floor as Maya Moore like that, not a lot of people can say they did that. It kind of made me think that I was like old, but like at the same time it was like super cool.”
We hardly think she’s old or slowing down. This season alone, the All-WNBA has been averaging 8.0 points (48.9% from the field), 4.9 rebounds, and a career-high 2.7 assists.

On August 20, the Minnesota Lynx completed a trade with the Washington Mystics for Myisha Hines-Allen in exchange for Olivia Époupa, Sika Koné, and a 2026 second-round pick. The 6’1″ forward suited up for the Lynx on Saturday night, when the team was hosting Indiana Fever. Alongside Caitlin Clark’s record-breaking night, Minnesota took a thrilling 90-80 win.
It was a fitting pre-celebration before the team retired the number of its biggest star who led them to four championships. And yes, Hines-Allen turned into a fangirl. “I got the jersey signed by her and I think arguably the best starting five ever in the W. So I was able to get them to sign the jersey too.”
It was an emotional night for all the players present, even at Fever. The ROTY-presumptive, Caitlin Clark has idolized Moore throughout her public life met the legend when she was still in Iowa. And the new class of WNBA rookies got to meet more WNBA stars that night.
An emotional game for the Minnesota Lynx
Rebekkah Brunson and Sylvia Fowles, whose numbers also hang in the rafters, were present and Myisha caught up with them too and got their autographs. Their presence, according to Hines-Allen, was a contributing factor to the night’s win.
“You could just tell like the energy in the locker room when they all walked in was like oh, they like know who these players are in a sense. Like… future Hall-of-Famers come back to teams and it’s kind of like high…. it was like winning culture energy that was in the locker room.”

What’s your perspective on:
Was trading Myisha Hines-Allen right before Maya Moore's ceremony a sign of disrespect or just business?
Have an interesting take?
And did you catch Myisha when Moore took the mic? “I mean when Maya was speaking, I shed a couple of tears because I was just like I cannot believe I’m here right now. It was really wild.” To think we’d not get this surreal moment in franchise history had they not acquired Myisha.
Stay tuned for more such updates and join us for the exciting second episode of the “Dual Threat Show” as our host BG12 sits down with Georgia Bulldogs star and Mountain West All-Freshman Team Selection, Asia Avinger.
