When the W season ended this year, Caitlin Clark revealed that she wanted to play golf in the offseason. Then the LPGA Pro-Am event took place, and after that ended, the burning question was again if Clark would play in the Unrivaled. While there is still no official confirmation, there were rumors that the ROTY wouldn’t lend her services to the Phee and Stewie’s brainchild.

Hence, when the Unrivaled’s EVP Clare Duwelius got into an interview with The Athletic Women’s Basketball Show on Friday, it was expected that she would speak up on Clark’s current status. However, contrary to that, she remained mum while also covering up for the 36-player secret.

“They found out yesterday. Just like everybody else. I rapid fire sent out like thirty si… four emails all at the same time yesterday…. I got a couple of responses of the emails from the players which was fun too.,” Duwelius revealed when questioned about when the players learn of their teams.

The Unrivaled announced its six-team roster on Wednesday. Each team has 6 players with two wild card spots open, which means out of the 34 players announced, Lunar Owls and Phantom can house 2 more stars. Whereas Laces, Mist, Rose, and Vinyl have all 6 players. Therefore, it remains to be seen who will be those two stars that will join DJ Sackmann’s and Adam Harrington’s teams.

Meanwhile, Duwelius had a slip of the tongue when she was about to speak thirty-six instead of thirty-four players, which had many speculating if the two remaining stars were already decided. While she, in time, corrected it to thirty-four, considering the league is set to start in January and 34 players have been announced, it remains to be seen whether the 2 players are yet to be decided and if Clark can make a late entry.

Caitlin Clark might not play in Unrivaled as per reports

With Clark posting an emotional message at the end of her W season this year and concluding it with “See you all in year two,” it was predicted that she wouldn’t be joining the Unrivaled. Then, in an attempt to lure her, Phee and Stewie reportedly offered her a Lionel Messi-like contract. She was reportedly offered a stake in the league, along with a base salary of $1 million, bonuses, and a stake in the media broadcasting rights.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Caitlin Clark's rumored rejection of a Messi-like offer a bold move or a missed opportunity?

Have an interesting take?

But then recently, according to a report by Michael Voepel, CC turned down the offer and won’t be joining the league. They also, according to reports, had a “full court press” just to convince the former NCAA Queen since she had previously rejected the offer of joining a half-court league by Big 3. But none of it could entice number 22. However, there hasn’t been any official confirmation about it, and with her friends Aaliyah Boston, Lexie Hull, and Kate Martin joining the league, there are chances that Clark might just declare in time.

Hopefully, the Unrivaled will soon announce its remaining two players. And most probably by that time, even Clark will give a clear answer on her status of joining the league.
