The first overall pick in the 2024 draft class, Caitlin Clark, has many positives. She passes the rock, includes her team, and becomes a shooting machine when it gets down to it. However, there is one thing that she knows she lacks. And the monster has come shadowing her just one game after her admission of lacking defensive skills like those of Maya Moore. This time, it is the Indiana fans calling her out for her subpar defense against the hosting Atlanta Dreams.
Tonight, the Fever kicked off their road matchup with the Dream. Their immaculate offense was visible as they went on an 8-0 run in the beginning of the game. However, going into the second quarter, their offense weakened and what became very obvious was their lack of defensive skills as well. Especially for the rookie guard Caitlin Clark.
One of the clips that is making rounds on the internet is the one in which No. 22 is on Tina Charles right outside the paint. Then, the Hall of Famer of the Dream swings around to see if she has any open players available. At this point, Clark thought that she was passing the ball to Jordin Canada who was standing right behind her. However, Charles took an easy jumper to grab another bucket for herself.

With the game being so close, the fans could not help but go against the rookie for not improving her defensive skills.
Indiana is not a fan of Caitlin Clark’s lack of defensive skills
It was a long 40 minutes for the Fever tonight as the fans saw their team lead, come close to trail, and then get back on track throughout the game. The hosts even trailed just two points behind in the fourth quarter. Though they gained the lead for a 84-79 finish, Clark’s poor defense with one block wasn’t to be missed among the highlights.
“As much as I love Caitlin Clark, she is a cone on defense.”

“Caitlin Clark is piss poor on defense. A literal cone #wnba”
As a true point guard, Caitlin Clark takes pride in creating plays for her teammates. However, averaging 0.8 blocks, 1.4 steals, and 5.6 turnovers, the 22-year-old rookie certainly has room for improvement.
“Caitlin Clark is so terrible on defense and I really wish she’d work on that part of her game. She’s hands down the best offensive rookie. That defense is fuckin atrocious”
Clark added a total of 19 points, led the game in assists, and tied for the most 3pointers by a WNBA rookie, tallying 85. But that wouldn’t standout when Clark was unable to guard her opponents. A fan took it upon themself to advice the Fever No.22 on execution, asking her to run down to get ahead of her player.
“Caitlin Clark’s defense is fucking GROSS. Girl, GO DOWN THERE?!?!”
Clark getting fooled by just Charles rotating and not even a pump fake did not add much in her favor either.
“I’m sorry but what kind of defense is this Caitlin? One second you’re guarding on ball, next thing you know you’re running away for no reason. Not a good time to switch back. She didn’t even pump fake… so she takes the open jumpshot LoL”

Caitlin Clark has elevated the entire team in many ways. However, a lot of it has been on the offensive end of things. While scoring is, of course, a requirement, keeping your opponents off their game is also just as crucial. Hopefully, the rookie will hear the Fever loyalists and get back on her defense train soon.
