The College Park Center was silenced as the Chicago Sky avenged their season-opening loss with a big win over Dallas last night. Coming in hot with a strong offense in the second half, the Sky played in symphony. Despite facing Dallas’ guard Arike Ogunbowale, Angel Reese and Co. brought that effective pace and defeated Dallas on their home court 83-74. This wonderful comeback by Sky brought head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, who won her first WNBA game as a head coach, to tears.

The energy with which Coach Weatherspoon walked into the locker room gave it all away as the team showered her with a winning splash. Expressing her happiness, coach Weatherspoon became all emotional, while Angel Reese and the team wrapped around her with affection.

She said, “Sometimes when things are said at half time they want to see how you respond. You guys came out and responded in the second half and you did it as a unit. It doesn’t matter if the calls go your way, you continue to play. That’s the most important thing. You stayed together, you fought together, you found a way to go and get it done. This means a lot to me. This first win is more to me than you all can ever imagine. I love every one of you guys. This is only one of many to come.”

Chicago was facing a huge threat in Arike Ogunbowale. She scored a game-high 35 points. However, that didn’t prove to be enough as the 2nd highest scorer on the team had just 11. On the other hand, the Sky’s starting five displayed power in conformity.

Angel Reese had 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Forward Diamond DeShields added 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists with an impressive display from beyond the arc. Center Elizabeth Williams stayed strong on defense with a team-high 10 rebounds alongside 12 points and 3 assists. Guard Marina Mabery looked brewing with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Dana Evans had 12 points and 6 assists.

The win has brought a lot of warranted confidence in Angel Reese and her squad that might come in handy as they get ready for another showdown on Friday.

The Chicago Sky vs. the New York Liberty

The Sky’s preseason face-off with the Liberty was a huge morale booster as they took a huge 101-53 win. While it was only a preseason game, it showed what Chicago could do on a good night. Nonetheless, last year’s Finalists seem to be back on track as they have started the season with 3 wins in a row.

Two of those wins have been in back-to-back games against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. And they both were quite comfortable victories. Angel Reese and Co. successfully dominated Dallas’ home court yesterday and will be hoping to do the same in Brooklyn on Thursday.
