The most hyped game and the most hyped rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark ended with just a 1-point difference. But the game turned out to be between Clark and Reese’s teammate Chennedy Carter. Sky guard Chennedy Carter took a deliberate and forceful action against Clark, knocking her down during an in-bounds play. Clark later gave her answer to ESPN regarding the situation but Carter denied answering any questions.

After the game, Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon held a post-game press conference with Kamilla Cardoso and Carter. Julia Poe, Bulls beat writer for the Chicago Tribune, wrote on X, “A little bit more from Chennedy Carter on that Caitlin Clark foul. Teresa Weatherspoon eventually cut off questioning after Chennedy said she didn’t want to answer any questions about the foul.

“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” Carter said. The reporter asked if there were any words shared between the two.”I don’t know what she said” and “I didn’t say anything,” said Carter. Seeing the awkward back-and-forth coach Weatherspoon interfered and said “That’s enough.”

The officials deemed the hit a common foul, and it was not upgraded to a flagrant. To make matters worse, Carter liked several questionable tweets regarding her incident with Clark after the game was over. Carter liked several posts from fans who applauded her for knocking Clark down to the ground. Carter finished the game with 19 points and was the top scorer of the game. Weatherspoon quickly came in support of her player just like coach Christie Sides who took support for Clark.

Not the first time Clark has been fouled

In the previous game on May 30, Coach Christie Sides picked up a technical foul in the Fever’s rematch against the Storm. It was for arguing with officials about a non-call when Clark went through a lot of contact to shoot a layup. Clark too has received three technical fouls this season. Two for arguing with referees about calls and one for face-to-face coming together with Storm guard Victoria Vivians.

When asked about Clark continuously getting fouled hard and not getting the calls, Sides paused and quietly said, “I’m trying to not get fined,” before praising Clark’s demeanor. If she were to have retaliated against Carter, she may have gotten called for her third in three games and fourth overall. Once players get seven technical fouls in a season, they’re suspended without pay for one game.

We’re just gonna keep sending these possessions to the league, these plays, and hopefully they’ll start taking a better look at some of the things that we see happening, or we think is happening,” Sides said. Clark too felt after the game that she wasn’t expecting the foul. But chose to remain calm about the situation and eventually secured the win for the team.
