Fans were excited to know that Coco Gauff would be the female flag bearer for Team USA at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The 20-year-old was extremely surprised upon hearing the announcement that entrusted her with the responsibility of carrying the flag along with LeBron James for the USA. However, Gauff who was the Grand Slam winner at US Open in 2023 has another reason to be happy due to unexpected news, and this time it is a 10-year-elder Team USA veteran.
Hamby posted a snap along with Gauff from the Paris Olympics which she captioned “About to be the coolest mom in the world 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰.” The 30-year-old has a 10-year age difference with Gauff and she will become the coolest mom, as per the post. Additionally, Gauff will be carrying the Team USA flag at the quadrennial event.

Hamby was roped in as a replacement for her Los Angeles Sparks teammate Cameron Brink. Brink suffered an ACL tear during the opening minutes of the game against the Connecticut Sun in mid-June. And that ended her chances of representing Team USA at the 3*3 women’s basketball in the Paris Olympics. Hence, Hamby teamed up with Hailey Van Lith, Rhyne Howard, and Cierra Burdick to help the USA go into one of the newest formats of basketball in the Olympics.
Hamby already has two daughters, and she enjoys playing the role of a mother. Her first child Amaya was born in February 2017 whereas her second child Legend was born just a year ago, in March 2023. She devotes all of her time when she is not playing to the care of her two children, along with her husband, former NFL baller Orlando Scandrick. However, Hamby is not just a mom to Gauff or her two children. In fact, she is also the mother to one of her Sparks teammates.
Dearica Hamby is a mother to another star
When Brink was newly drafted into the WNBA, during one of her practice session interviews, she revealed that Hamby was her “second mom.” Getting into the league she got the utmost attention and guidance from the veteran star Hamby which gave her the courage to show her exemplary performances. She had even stated, “I love Dearica.”
