As the regular WNBA season draws to a close, fans couldn’t be more excited for the playoffs after the level of basketball witnessed during the regular season. With the teams this year having played 40 games each, the playoff promises to be a good one as teams look to overthrow the Las Vegas Aces. Kelsey Plum’s Aces topped their conference and are still the favorites but there are plenty of teams that could topple them given the level of competition this year. Sabrina Ionescu and her New York Liberty teammates are definitely a team to watch out for as they were recently given high praise by an NBA icon.
Although the aforementioned teams are the two clear favorites there is still enough room for a potential upset with all quarterfinalists being strong competitors. A glimpse of what is to come was on display last night as the Chicago Sky clinched the final playoff spot with a win over the Minnesota Lynx. The win was also marred with drama as rookie Diamond Miller’s taunts towards the Sky players led to a heated exchange.

The second overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, rookie Diamond Miller has seamlessly adjusted to life in the WNBA. Rated as a 5-star recruit during her High School career Miller has so far lived up to the hype becoming the first rookie to score over 20 points in a WNBA game.
While Diamond continues to grow stride by stride, the rookie was involved in a verbal altercation last night as the Lynx were defeated by a resurgent Chicago side. Taking place in the fourth quarter the exchange began when the 22-year-old converted a layup over Kahleah Copper and began to chip away at the 3x WNBA All-Star.
The Chicago guard wasn’t too pleased with the rookie and was seen adding a few words of her own before replying with a 3 pointer over Diamond in the very next play.
This heated exchange also saw Copper get a technical foul as the 29-year-old was seen taunting Miller, earning the Minnesota Lynx a trip to the free throw line in the process.
Notably, before going on to clinch the final playoff spot the Chicago Sky weren’t guaranteed that position before tip-off.

With the Lynx already firmly in the playoffs it was the Los Angeles Sparks that rivaled the Chicago team for the final spot with both teams starting the night with a 16-22 record.
The Chicago Sky clinch the final playoff spot
While the Sky did win their match it was the Sparks’ loss against the New York Liberty that allowed the Chicago side to qualify for the playoffs with a game to spare. Beaten by a score of 96-89 this will be the second season in a row that the LA-based team fails to qualify for the knockout rounds, meaning it will be the Chicago Sky that faces the Cincinati Suns come Sunday.
