The sub-par season of the Chicago Sky took another setback when last year’s Finalists, the New York Liberty, handed them a 76-91 defeat. Still, the result had a silver lining with rookie Angel Reese extending her double-double streak to 15 straight games. However, that was not all as for yet another fixture, their dark horse Chennedy Carter exhibited a sound display of her skills. While she came into the limelight due to that infamous incident involving Caitlin Clark, Carter has been nothing short of brilliant on the court, something her head coach Teresa Weatherspoon agrees with.
In her 32 minutes on the floor against New York, Carter was able to produce a team-high 22 points to go along with 5 assists while shooting 10 of 21 from the field. It seems there is a certain driving force that motivates her to pull off such performances repeatedly. With an emotional tone, Carter said, “I love being here. We’re building something special. I’m just so thankful to be a part of something like this. Two years coming, I’m really thankful to be a part of something like this.”
After being the 4th overall pick in the 2020 draft by the Atlanta Dream, the journey hasn’t been easy for the shooting guard. She was indefinitely suspended from the franchise for “conduct detrimental to the team.” Consequently, she was traded to the LA Sparks for the 2022 campaign. Following her one season with them, she was waived which compelled her to spend the year 2023 playing professionally overseas.

It was before the start of the current season that Weatherspoon scouted her and made her a part of the Chicago roster. Since then, the 25-year-old has lived up to her coach’s expectations and delivered whenever the situation demanded.
The resurgence of Chennedy Carter
Despite not being a starter initially, Carter has still managed to make her mark. Currently, she leads the team in scoring. On top of that, her average of 16.9 points per contest places her 13th overall in the league. What’s interesting to note is that this is more than one of the major Rookie of the Year contenders and the No.1 draft pick Caitlin Clark.
Moreover, her playmaking abilities have also come in handy for the 2021 WNBA champions. Currently, an assist rate of 2.9 per game is the third-best within the team and ranks her 28th in the league.
