Did Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier's daughters just steal the spotlight from the Olympic gold medalists?

Margins and Moments! The two components define the women’s basketball gold medal game at the Paris Olympics. The barest of margins comprise a single point separating the podium positions of Team USA and hosts France eventually. At the same time, the moments included Team USA’s pure elation of grabbing their 8th consecutive gold and being able to carry the legacy forward. While many are still gushing over this current generation for their exploits, the team’s standout performer Breanna Stewart just provided a glimpse of what the future of this “greatest dynasty” might hold.

Celebrations were in order at the Bercy Arena as Team USA’s 3-decade dominance unveiled its new chapter. In a scintillating display of some ‘edge of the seat,’ basketball, Team USA prevailed over France by a whisker — 66-67. Following this, some everlasting scenes transpired in the French capital.

From the squad’s celebration to Diana Taurasi bidding adieu to the Olympic stage, every picture had its own story. Amidst all that was a snap of Mila (Napheesa Collier’s daughter) and Ruby (Breanna Stewart’s daughter) soaking in the moment with their Team USA t-shirts.

Well, just like their mothers, they were also sharing the stage together. Stewart made sure to make the most of this adorable moment by capturing it and uploading it on X, tagging her ‘Unrivaled’ partner. Captioning it, “Team USA 2044,” the 29-year-old delighted her fans by imparting an idea of what to expect hereafter.

Ruby Mae Stewart Xargay is the firstborn child of Breanna Stewart, and her wife, Marta Xargay Casademont. The couple welcomed her to the world just 48 hours after Stewart won her second gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, Collier and her partner, NBA and WNBA skills coach Alex Bazzell announced the birth of Mila Sarah Bazzell on May 25, 2022. The two have kept her close to Collier’s games ever since, to showcase ‘women working hard to attain their dreams’. The two even wish to see her in sports someday. “I’ll be happy if it’s basketball,” she’d said via Olympics.com.

Missing out on a second straight MVP doesn’t mean that Breanna Stewart didn’t put up an exhibition. Evidently, her 6 games were quite a handful for the opponents, as she registered a scoring average of 16.3 points per game. In addition to this, the 6 ft 4 forward has 5.3 rebounds along with shooting her field goals at 56.7% efficiency. Stewart ended up just below the eventual MVP A’ja Wilson.

As for Collier, she was 4th on the list. The 4x WNBA All-Star had 6.7 p.p.g next to her name along with a 6.5 rebound rate. Further, the 27-year-old managed to secure a 46.2% from the field and was accurate 53.1% from the 2-point range.

Despite the narrow victory, nothing can be taken away from these two. Their contribution well and truly played its part in handing Team USA its historic feat. Now, both Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier will want to repeat that with their franchises in the WNBA.
