The reignited Israel-Palestine conflict has lately seen many celebrities breaking their silence and calling for some semblance and sanity. Among them is a former WNBA star taking a firm stance against the violence. The player pleaded both sides for peace in the ongoing war fast snowballing into a big humanitarian crisis.

The war which exploded on Saturday evening after a Hamas militia group broke into Israel has been getting more violent by day with the death toll clocking in on 3,000 on both sides. Amid mounting crisis, the calls from olive branch are growing.

Ex-WNBA star pleads for peace

Former WNBA star Liz Cambage recently took to Instagram to take a stern stance against violence. The 4x WNBA All-Star pleaded for a truce between Israel and Palestine.

While the war has affected people from all walks of life it is the children on both sides that are having the worst impact with over 500 children estimated to have died during the conflict.

Liz who has been playing in Israel with Maccabi Bnot Ashdod this season shared a graphic from Sesame Street’s Instagram account as she empathized with the families and children who have been thrusted into this mindless war. Cambage also offered to help financially as she captioned the story with a message that read, “If anyone has links to organizations to donate and help please share with me” extending her support to the people affected by more means than one.

Liz Cambage’s journey to Israel

Israel is the fourth country that Liz Cambage has called home during her basketball journey as the Australian has played in China, USA and her home country during her 16-year long career. Starting in the WNBL in 2007, the 32-year-old represented a side based in the capital city of Canberra as she then moved to the WNBA during the 2011 season. During her first season in the States, Liz represented the Tulsa Shock before moving to China after citing that she didn’t want to play in Tulsa.

Spending her next 5 years playing for teams in China, Cambage found herself in American soil once more in 2018 as she suited up for the Dallas Wings during the 2018 season. Liz then represented the Las Vegas Aces between 2019-2021 before playing for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022 which happened to be her last season in the WNBA. Having requested the Sparks to release her from her contract in July 2022 Liz then joined Israeli side Maccabi Bnot Ashdod earlier this year where she continues to play today.

Having previously been scrutinized for her slurs against the Nigerian team during the Tokyo Olympics, Cambage seems to be on a different path now as she pleads for peace during the Israel-Palestine conflict.
