Being a guard against Caitlin Clark is not an easy job. The NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer has made a college reputation for destroying the defenses of some of the best college programs over the years. Compared to that, the Connecticut Sun did a fairly decent job on Monday at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Providing a clearer picture regarding that was the trio of Alyssa Thomas, Tyasha Harris, and DeWanna Bonner.

After edging past Indiana Fever 88-84, all the aforementioned athletes reflected on their performance in the post-game press conference. During this, a reporter asked Harris about her confrontation with Caitlin Clark in the second half. She went on and replied, “She’s good at shooting. We just stuck with the game plan.”

The game plan worked wonders for them, indeed. Just like the previous game, Caitlin Clark came out hard on the Sun, scoring 8 points in the opening quarter. This resulted in the home team overcoming a 5-point deficit and closing the first 10 minutes with 26 points for each team. However, in the next two quarters, the 6-foot guard could only put 2 points on the board courtesy of some excellent defending.

Moreover, Connecticut outscored Indiana in the third quarter, tilting the momentum in their favor a little. Despite Clark registering 7 points in the penultimate quarter, the 2012 champions were unable to capitalize on the limited opportunities provided to them and lost by a 4-point margin. Simultaneously, some on-court antics from Caitlin Clark also grabbed a little attention.

The two-time national player of the year was in a spot of trouble with her outburst on an official at a crucial point in the game. With just 3:39 remaining in the game and the score at 76-75 in favor of Indiana, Caitlin Clark lost the ball following a steal by Alyssa Thomas. This enraged the Fever’s No. 22 as she expressed her frustration with the referee for not calling it a foul. But it also resulted in her receiving a technical foul.

Later, she opened up about the incident and said, “A little frustration of how the game was reffed. But it is what it is. That’s out of your control. I thought our team put ourselves in position to make some plays to try and win down the stretch and the Sun always came up with big plays.”

Despite their best efforts, Caitlin Clark and Co. came up short yet again. For the fans, the wait for the first win is extended to Wednesday, when Indiana will take the court against Seattle. Will they be able to register their first win? Only time will tell.
