Is Caitlin Clark's trash-talking really that bad, or are we just too sensitive nowadays?

The Indiana Fever was playing against the Seattle Storm on Monday when Skylar Diggins-Smith bumped into Caitlin Clark. Clark was firing up the crowd in front of the Storm bench during the game’s final few minutes when Smith started walking towards Clark and nudged her a little. Though it is still debatable whether she did it on purpose or it was just a mistake, fans certainly came to Clark’s rescue to voice their opinions against Smith. However, a certain media veteran believes that Clark isn’t as soft as she is being portrayed and that she too has a competitive side.

Demetria Obilor recently spoke on the entire issue and pointed out that Clark is strong enough to respond to her haters in style and hence, the fans should stop creating controversy out of everything.

“Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese don’t even complain about it like people on the internet do because they know what time it is. You’re coming into the greatest women’s basketball league with targets on your back. Yeah, it’s time to pay some more dues, cost to be the boss. And they know that. But, it’s so sick to me that people online are trying to create this idea of Caitlin Clark, like she’s not a sh-t talker and she can’t take shoulder bump. If anyone’s that soft, they shouldn’t be playing basketball. Caitlin Clark is not soft. She talks a whole lot of trash. She can take it, alright? Like, stop babying these players. Like, it’s ridiculous to me,” Obilor said on her YouTube channel.

Clark was in the middle of a controversy when she did John Cena’s ‘You Can’t See Me’ gesture against the Louisville Cardinals during an Elite Eight game in March 2023. However, the then-Cardinals star Hailey Van Lith later came to clarify that Clark had made the gesture for the Hawkeyes strength coach. Still, it was the first time that Clark’s fans had seen her being aggressive. The Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon has also confirmed her trash-talking reputation.

Hammon opined that Clark is one of the best trash talkers during an interview in June. The fans, on the other hand, believed that Angel Reese, who had done the ‘You Can’t See Me’ gesture against Clark during the 2023 NCAA Finals, was far ahead of Clark in terms of mocking other players on the court. Nonetheless, Hammon thinks otherwise.

As per Daily Mail, the Las Vegas Aces head coach said, “Oh Angel [Reese] is talking… [but] nobody talks more c–p than Caitlin too!” Hammon revealed that she saw Clark’s aggressive side when she was involved in an altercation with the Connecticut Sun’s Alyssa Thomas. Despite Hammon confirming Clark’s image, Rashad McCants believes that Clark needs to be protected.

Have an interesting take?

McCants took to the social media networking platform X after Smith speed-walked and bumped into Clark. As per him, Smith’s action was “diabolical” and it just showed that the Storm doesn’t like Clark. He further enumerated that it was “nasty work.” While tagging Smith in his X post, he wrote “Man [Skyler Diggins-Smith] I know you didn’t speed up to bump into her like this!!!! Lmaoooo.” McCants added.

And now that the Fever looks to be making it to the playoffs, McCants also believes that Clark should be this year’s MVP. Though MVP might be a great honor for her, she is also currently in the Rookie of the Year race with Angel Reese.

Obilor’s understanding of Clark once again seems to be against her decent girl image. However, it remains to be seen if Clark will openly engage in a fiasco in the W since she has been avoiding all the controversies for now. Hopefully, for fans, Clark will do whatever it takes to get her into the playoffs even if that requires engaging in tough conversations with some of her opponents.
