Shaquille O’Neal has established himself as the biggest brand in terms of reach and engagement in the basketball community. For his 32.3 Million followers on Instagram, he is the Joker, the entertainer, and someone who keeps the basketball community talking. It isn’t something new, but over the past few years, he’s all in for All-time GOAT debates. Whether you drop a lineup facing LeBron James against Michael Jordan, or you create an all-time starting line-up.

If the graphic catches his eye, he will share it and ask his fans to chime in irrespective of the debate. However, who doesn’t like a battle between the biggest basketball stars in the world?

Following the disappointing exit of Team USA from the FIBA World Cup, Shaq had something to say even then. Ever since USA professional track and field sprinter, Noah Lyles shared his controversial thoughts on NBA players calling themselves “World Champions”, the internet was on fire. The remarks didn’t sit well with some NBA players or even with the Toronto Raptors superfan and rapper Drake. Everybody gave their take on Lyles’ wild statements.

If you think about it, both sides had valid viewpoints. NBA players call themselves world champions because the league comprises the biggest basketball stars in the world. And if the top 5 NBA players line up against the top 5 players from the world, who will win? When a sports page shared an imaginary line-up titled “Team USA vs World,” Shaq did what he always does. He got so confused that he shared the post on his Instagram with the caption Dam, I honestly can’t answer. Who you got?

The shared lineup had a 5-on-5 between Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis representing Team USA. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid represent the World. Talk about line-up to save your life. For Shaq’s worries about choosing who to root for, WNBA legend Sue Bird solved Shaq’s biggest dilemma. The 4x WNBA champion shared Shaq’s post on her Instagram story, with the caption, Maybe we should find out at NBA ALL-Star 2024“. While fans and NBA legends have their say, the NBA Commissioner addressed the subject a few months back.

Adam Silver’s stance on the 2024 All-Star weekend

Nearly 3 months back, during his virtual appearance on the ‘Dan Patrick Show,’ Adam Silver discussed potential changes to the All-Star games. Host Dan Patrick inquired about the possibility of an International vs. American All-Star game in the near future. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver indicated that this wouldn’t happen as early as next year.

When asked about reverting to the classic East vs. West model, Silver said, “Next year, we’re going to be in Indianapolis, and one of the things we’re looking at is returning to the traditional East vs. West format”. The 2017 All-Star game is scheduled for Indianapolis. In addition, he said, “I think we need to find a way to create some genuine competition”. Fans may find the idea of foreign players competing against Americans intriguing, but it appears the league’s current priority is to revive the All-Star game’s competitive spirit by looking into ways to make it more intense. They want to make it more of a match between the Eastern and Western Conference. So, it’s only a matter of time before this dream match-up becomes reality. If it does materialize by the 2024 NBA All-Star, who are you rooting for? Team USA or the Rest of the World?
