As long as Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese play in the same league there is always going to be comparison between them. While some followers opine that Clark is way better than Reese especially since she signed off the NCAA as the leading women’s and men’s scorer, others say Reese is better due to her rebounding skills. Recently the WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes came forward to put an end to long-standing debate.
Swoopes was present in an episode of Gil’s Arenas when she chose Reese over Clark opining that she should be winning the Rookie of the Year if the award was to be given as per current performances. “For me if rookie of the year was picked today I’ll give it to Angel,” Swoopes stated. This declaration sparked immediate controversy among WNBA fans, igniting a heated debate over the merits of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.
“She’s (Angel) not a bully. Well I mean if you want to talk about bullies we can talk about each… every time Caitlin has the ball,“ Swoopesa added in another section of the same podcast.

Reese who averages a double-double in the WNBA should be given the preference over Clark as per Swoopes. Currently, Reese has basketed 12.1 points per game with 10.2 rebounds per contest. She has been playing extremely well and has mostly adjusted to the level of the WNBA. Though as per Swoopes she is yet to improve her offensive game. Nonetheless, Swoopes opined that she stood ahead of Clark.
And it was not only Swoopes who stated the same. Even in the New York Times WNBA rookie rankings Reese occupied the first spot whereas Clark was positioned at the third. But since there is always a lot of tussle between Reese and Clark’s fans, the same was noticed when Swoopes shared her take. Clark’s fans in the comment section of Gil Arena’s podcast on YouTube came forward to slam Swoopes.
Caitlin Clark fans attack Sheryl Swoopes
“So why isn’t Swoopes mentioning the fact that Reese cheered her teammate for doing the play that was 100% WRONG???,” one Clark fan commented. Reese had previously stood up from her bench and clapped for her teammate Chennedy Carter when the latter had shoved Clark to the ground. The user was pointing out the fact that Reese has a lot of negative energy which needs to be pointed out.
“Saying that Angel Reese is the ROY over Caitlin Clark is truly wild. Forget the players and who you like—just look at the numbers,” another user commented. The netizen was stating the fact that while Reese averages a double-double, Clark has been giving impressive numbers in her assists and points average. As mentioned before, Reese has besotted 12.1 points per game with 10.2 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, Clark has 16.1 points per match with 6.2 assists per outing. Therefore as per number Clark leads in points and also in assists. She has been easily adjusting to the different situations and switching between being a scorer and the second fiddle.
“Sheryl Swoopes sound bitter as hell. Absolute cringe.,” another fan stated. Swoopes had previously stated that due to COVID there was an extra year of eligibility in the NCAA and the fifth year had helped Clark in breaking the legendary Pete Maravich’s all-time leading scorer record. However, later Swoopes also apologized for her remarks and revealed she didn’t know that Clark hadn’t taken her eligibility year. Her previous statements had led to a backlash from Clark’s fans. Hence, a user was trying to point out that Swoopes has always been bitter about Clark.
“:imma keep it spicy and short…. NEVER BRING THIS WOMAN ON THIS PODCAST EVER AGAIN…SIMPLE,” another Clark admirer commented. Maybe Clark’s fans were in the mood to cancel Swoopes for always speaking controversial statements about the Iowa alum.
“Swoop is smoking something. Angel Reese is averaging a worse FG% than Caitlin Clark and she’s a post player. Make it make sense,” another fan stated. While Reese has 37.1% field goals, Clark has 38.3% which as per the user makes Clark a better post player.
Swoopes has once again delivered a controversial statement and it remains to be seen how Clark will react to it if she does. Her fans hopefully can move on from Swoopes’s statement and continue cheering for Clark.
