Caitlin Clark’s rookie season ended in the first round of the playoffs last year, facing off against the Connecticut Sun coached by Stephanie White. White, the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year, made Clark go toe-to-toe with All-Star DeWanna Bonner, whose years of experience showed during that series. But a lot has changed since then. Both White and Bonner will be wearing the Fever colors in the upcoming season, and Bonner seems to be embracing her new role with Indiana!
Everybody knows what Bonner brings to the table for Fever. The 6x All-Star is a two-time WNBA champion with the Phoenix Mercury. She averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds last season, earning her another All-Star appearance. This just shows how big of a coup this is for Fever. For Bonner, however, this is her chance to prove she can be the leader of what is a very young core of players.
When asked about how she was dealing with the expectations of being a veteran in a new team, DeWanna Bonner shared, “It’s different, you know, definitely different because you go from playing with an older group in Connecticut to a younger group. But the most impressive thing, I think, is them wanting to be better. You know, they want to be a great team, they want to be a great organization.”

The future looks bright for the Indiana Fever, with a young core led by Caitlin Clark, Aaliyah Boston, and Lexie Hull set to carry the franchise forward. But don’t forget about Kelsey Mitchell. At 29, she’s still in her prime and plays a huge role in this squad.aired with Clark in the backcourt, the two formed one of the most lethal duos in the league last season, combining for an impressive 38.4 points per game. While they’re aiming to improve on last year’s performance, they won’t be lacking support. With additions like Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham, and DeWanna Bonner, there’s no shortage of depth. Bonner even has a message for Clark which further shows just how determined this Fever squad is to make some noise this season.
Bonner had nothing but praise for Clark, calling her ” a dynamic player” and emphasizing how much she does for the team. She acknowledged that the whole squad understands Clark’s importance and is committed to making her life easier. “I think everybody here just wants to make her life easier, and she wants to make everybody else’s life easier.” The relationship between the two is clearly strong, with Bonner adding, “Yeah, I love C.”
It’s clear that this is Caitlin Clark’s team now, and the players are all in to make sure she can play her game freely. But the fans are just as excited to see how he two first picks of the draft play together this season. Aaliyah Boston certainly had her say on the matter!

Aliyah Boston drops powerful statement about Caitlin Clark
Not often does a franchise land the first pick of the draft in back-to-back years, but the basketball gods were kind to the Fever. They pulled off a rare feat, securing Aaliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark–two WNBA Rookie of the Year winners in consecutive seasons!
Last year, Clark and Boston began their first season together, and while there were some early struggles with offensive rhythm, they quickly found their groove. By the end of the season, they had solidified themselves as one of the best duos in the WNBA. Boston averaged 14 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, making her a constant threat in the paint. After their first training session of the season, she spoke about how their chemistry had already improved.
What’s your perspective on:
Can DeWanna Bonner's veteran presence transform the Indiana Fever into a formidable force this season?
Have an interesting take?
“I think it’s gonna be better for both of us,” Boston said. “Last year, obviously, at the beginning of the season it was a little rough just trying to figure out that play. But now, know exactly how we like to play.” This will definitely put the other W franchises on red alert. The prospect of Clark and Boston hooping in full flow is a scary one for sure.
