The WNBA is becoming increasingly popular during the NBA offseason because of the intensity of its games and some questionable decisions made by the referees that have sparked debate among fans and analysts alike. The Minnesota Lynx’s 26 YO forward performed a nasty foul in a recent match, which stirred buzz among the spectators. Injuries are definitely part of the game, but being caught in a hard foul is something intolerable. It is not just the fault of the players, and the responsibility lies equally on the coaching staff as well.
The 26-year-old Australian star had a year full of bumps and bruises and this knock-down by Lynx forward will be a difficult time for her.

Not so long ago, we witnessed a dirty foul on 22-year-old Diamond Miller, a rookie player for the Minnesota Lynx by the Phoenix Suns’ Onyenwere as she jumped on Diamond and knocked her down.
A similar incident happened again, but this time it was Minnesota’s 26 YO star forward who performed the foul. Napheesa Collier knocked down the 26-year-old Australian player Alanna Smith of the Chicago Sky in the middle of an intense game.
Chicago is leading Minnesota by a score of 55-48. Amid the game, we could hear presenters, “Alanna Smith went tumbling to the floor there and was a foul.”
Considering the physicality of the game, the knockdown was pretty huge. Looking at Alanna’s year so far, she is dealing with a lot of injuries, and this is an added pain.

The presenter describes the mental state of the injured player, “There are so many emotions, high emotions, so you got to come back and still play under pressure.”
A foul definitely undermines fairness in a game
The Chicago Sky won the match against the Minnesota Lynx 92-89. It was a pretty slim win for Minnesota who would still have led if not for the fouls. Basketball is a fierce game and injuries in any game are unavoidable. But injuries due to fouls are highly demeaning to the ethical value of the game and the teams. As the presenter observed, “You’re behind. You gotta be able to value your possession, you don’t want to get any crazy foul trouble.”

A fairly smart game would have saved Minnesota from a loss. Any foul performed in a game is possibly a positive upgrade for the opposite team. “Doing your own job is very important in a game,” concludes the presenter.
