Caitlin Clark in the 2028 Olympics—Is she the future of Team USA basketball?

The delegation representing Team USA in women’s basketball is just one step away from a historic 8th. Anyhow, there have been numerous debates about how the current roster could have provided Indiana rookie Caitlin Clark her first Olympic experience. Having said that, the next edition is in LA 4 years from now. That makes plenty of time for Clark to cement her place. But, if we have to believe the words of an eminent analyst, Clark has already taken giant leaps in that direction.

The eminent broadcaster Ros Gold-Onwude recently joined Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill on his podcast Good Word with Good Will. One of the topics that took center stage was how Team USA’s women’s basketball unit would look in the next 4 years. And, just like many, Ros Gold-Onwude thought that this discussion could not be tabled without Caitlin Clark.

She went on and said, “Heading into the Olympic break, she really elevated her game. She affects so many parts of the game… She’s making others better, she rebounds well out of the guard position. I think she’s going to be fantastic. By the time 2028 comes… I believe she’s gonna have so many accolades by that point.”

The debut season for Caitlin Clark has been an absolute blast. Not only is the 6-foot-guard leading the league in assists, but she’s among the top 15 scorers at the moment. On top of that, her final 12 games before the Olympic break have produced 18.8 points, and 10.8 assists in every game. This is in addition to 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. It also includes 8 double-doubles and a historic rookie triple-double.

While many would point a finger towards her leading the league in turnovers. It seems that the analyst has an answer to that too. “It’s part of it. It comes with the territory of being a lead guard in the WNBA on a team that needs every single thing you can give it.” For the time being, she has 145 turnovers next to her name.

While the next Olympics is a far-sighted affair for Caitlin Clark, she is making sure she remains in the moment and enjoys Team USA’s latest exploits.

In the meantime, Team USA clinched their 5th consecutive gold in the men’s gold medal game against France. And, for the second time in a row, the star of the show turned out to be the Golden Boy–Stephen Curry. After his monumental effort against Serbia which included 36 points, the 24 points in the Finals sealed the deal for Team USA.

While he received many shoutouts after that, one among them was extended by Caitlin Clark. Seemingly, using his iconic “night-night” gesture, Clark captioned an Instagram story “cheat code,” hinting at the unparalleled answer he has been for the team.
