Is Caitlin Clark's talent being wasted on the Indiana Fever? What do you think?

“They’re not that good.” This is what King James conveyed to JJ Reddick when Caitlin Clark was drafted by the Indiana Fever. However, this particular chain of thought gained traction from the ‘Mind the Game’ podcast which surfaced as soon as the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer was drafted N0.1 by the franchise. Since then, this belief has gained its acceptance among many of the WNBA enthusiasts. While that list primarily includes her supporters, American sports media personality Colin Cowherd isn’t shying away from outrightly stating that he is also part of it.

The 60-year-old recently spared a thought or two in this direction. Expressing himself on the amount of talent Caitlin Clark possesses, he added a touch of criticism of the locker room she’s a part of. Cowherd said on Fox Sports Radio, “She is a rookie on a bad team. She has scored or assisted on 66 points, 71% of the Fever’s points (against Dallas Wings). That’s the most ever in league history. She’s breaking records every week”.

The rookie sensation has set the WNBA court on fire ever since her advent. Seemingly, the compilation of 26 games has resulted in her securing over 41% of the team’s total points. These include both the scoring as well as the assisting category. On top of that, Caitlin Clark sits at the summit of the league in terms of most points created. As it turns out, her tally of 849 of the total 2,033 Fever points is an unprecedented feat this season.

However, that is not all that the 2× USBWA National Player of the Year is looking to produce as a rookie.

What lies next for Caitlin Clark as a rookie?

Caitlin Clark currently sits at the 7th position overall with a total of 445 points. But, this is the most by any rookie this season and a further addition of 239 points will make her the second most prolific rookie in WNBA history. Moreover, if she can cross the 327 mark in total assists by the end of the season, she will be the first female athlete to do so.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark also has the opportunity to score the most 3-point FGs as a rookie. The 6-foot-guard needs to connect 38 of her attempts from beyond the arc. Finally, she is also on pace to become the first player to average 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds in a single campaign.

Have an interesting take?

Many would believe that it won’t be an uphill task for Caitlin Clark to achieve the aforementioned feats. With almost half of the season still to go, her fans would obviously fancy her accomplishing more. This will ultimately result in presenting a strong case for this year’s ROTY honor.
