One cannot be a basketball fan and not know about the Caitlin Clark–Angel Reese rivalry. One of the biggest games of the WNBA, the match will start at 12 PM ET. However, it is not only their clash that is turning heads. The match will be watched by a lot of enthusiasts since this is going to be Angel Reese’s teammate and WNBA sensation Kamilla Cardoso’s first regular season game.
Cardoso had injured her shoulder during her preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx. She was formerly expected to miss 4-6 weeks as she went into rehab. And now, Kamilla Cardoso will be making her regular season debut against one of the most watched teams – the Clark’s Indiana Fever.
The game is noted for another point since Cardoso will clash against her former teammate Aliyah Boston who was the number one pick by the Fever from the 2023 WNBA draft. Taking note of the same, Cardoso spoke about Boston and how she was a role model minutes before the contest. She spoke highly of her former South Carolina Gamecocks teammate and what she anticipated in the clash. The video of the same was posted on X by Chicago’s media outlet.

“It’s going to be great. She was my role model for a long time. I played against her in college. I’m just excited I have the opportunity to be playing against her now,” Cardoso stated.

As mentioned, Kamilla Cardoso and Boston were teammates. While Boston plied her trade for the Gamecocks from 2019-2023, Cardoso did so from 2021 to 2024. Therefore, both played 2 NCAA seasons together. Meanwhile, Cardoso was previously with Syracuse for her freshman year in 2020-2021. At that time, she would have also clashed against Boston as she mentioned in the interview. Together the duo won the NCAA Championship in 2022.
While Cardoso played a supporting role, Boston was the main player during that season. Boston averaged a whopping 16.8 points per game with 12.5 rebounds per match. Cardoso played 32 games that season, 5 fewer than Boston, and throttled 5.4 points per game with 5.1 rebounds per outing. Therefore, going by their history both will be keen to smash numbers.
Kamilla Cardoso shares feelings post-injury
Cardoso also in the same interview reflected on her break from the WNBA. After her injury she had to be sidelined and Cardoso must have been heartbroken. But fortunately, she was cleared to play today and hopefully will be smoking her opponents. Her debut will set the tone for her as she will need time to adjust to the highest level. She reflected on what she looked most forward to.
“Honestly just getting back to play the game. I mean, I was out for like 4 weeks so I am just excited to go out there and be able to play,” Kamilla Cardoso had added.
