Being guided by a veteran of the field can be very advantageous for the incoming rookies. But having one like Dearica Hamby tops them all. The former Aces star and 2x Sixth Woman of the Year has been lifting the Sparks in each game. However, more than her efforts on the court, her off-court guidance is also just as fruitful to Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. This is something that the Los Angeles head coach Curt Miller is quite fond of.
The recently inducted Hall of Famer Curt Miller has spent almost a decade in this business. Hence, speaking with his experience, the LA coach praised Dearica Hamby for her helping hand for Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. Miller told the postgame press conference, “She’s really trying to lead and encourage. She’s really an encourager to Cam and a nurturer to try to bring Cam through this rookie class. Tired of talking about it but rookies are going to have an adjustment. And to way to watch her try to mentor Cam and talk her through things and Rickea, it’s just really, really impressive.”
Adding more wishes for the 2x WNBA All-Star, Miller said, “You get that naturally more from point guards. So, to see it come from the post is, you know, she can’t do anything more than she’s doing. She’s just been incredibly impressive. As we creep closer to the Olympic break, Dearica Hamby has to be an All-Star.”

Last night, Dearica Hamby added yet another double-double to propel the Sparks ahead of Arike Ogunbowale-led Wings. She brought 22 points and 12 rebounds for the team. But she was not alone.
How is Dearica Hamby impacting the Sparks alongside Cameron Brink?
There is no surprise that the 6-ft-3 forward is elevating LA’s team. She has a double-digit score in every game so far and a double-double in all but two games. While the Sparks have lost most competitions in the run till now, Hamby’s leadership is quite visible. Curt Miller also spoke up on how Hamby is impacting the rather young core in LA. He said, “Her experience being around good team, obviously WNBA champion, and decorated player with those sixth player awards. She brings instant credibility. But she leads not only by example. She plays hard. She shows up.”
He also added, “I can’t be more proud. She’s leading vocally. It’s not always easy to lead vocally from the post position.” However, apart from the veteran, her so-called padawan is also wreaking havoc on her opponents. Cameron Brink, who will represent the USA in Paris Olympics, brought in her best game tonight against Dallas and grabbed her very first double-double of her WNBA career.
It is good to know that an experienced player like Hamby is leading the charge for Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. While the win-loss record does not exactly show how great the chemistry between the members of this team is, Miller’s words are proof that they are getting along just fine. Next, the LA Sparks will face the Aces who they gave a tough competition in their first matchup.
