“My dream? It would be to face the USA in the Final.” Having played most recently for the New York Liberty, the 29-year-old hooper has now set up her dream board of a national mission. Marine Johannes has indeed helped France advance in the women’s basketball event at the Paris Olympics. However, before she locks horns with Team USA, the French superstar has joined the league of elite basketball players in the Olympics’ record books, including USA’s legend Diana Taurasi.
The official X account of NYL Stats tweeted about the 29-year-old athlete’s recent achievement with which she propelled France over Germany in an 84-71 outing. They wrote, “Marine Johannès is the fourth player since 2008 to record multiple games of at least 5 3PM within the same tournament, joining Yuki Miyazawa, Mika Fujitaka, and Diana Taurasi, and the first to do so while coming off the bench.”

The leading lady of the game totaled 24 points in 25 minutes while eliminating her Liberty teammates Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally’s maiden Olympic run. However, that was not the only epic detail about her game today. She made 5 of 10 baskets from beyond the arc, joining the three-pointer table topper Diana Taurasi for multiple games with more than 5 three-pointers made. Interestingly, she became the first player to do this coming off of a bench. Contrastingly, the 42-year-old 6x Olympian last made 6 deep shots against Serbia in the 2016 Rio Summer Games.
Here is how the winning team completely overtook the WNBA’s star power in the Deutschland team.
A look at the quarterfinal display of Marine Johannes and Co.
Until the very last quarter, France completely dominated the box score. They showed off their offense to the Bercy Arena going 47.7% from the field and 40.7% from the three-point line. Overall, Marine Johannes and the squad had better stats, except their rebounds where they truly took a hit. Nevertheless, their immaculate defense with 8-0 blocks and lower turnovers proved to be quite helpful.
