New York Liberty 2.0. If there’s one team that has shown consistency throughout the WNBA 2023 and 2024, it’s this team. Last year they had to compromise their dream of bagging the Championship title for the fourth time as they were beaten by the Aces in the Finale series. Hence, coming into this year, the Liberty had one thing in mind: to dominate the court. And they have been doing just that as they sit atop the WNBA points table. As the W season heads into the playoffs, Sabrina Ionescu & Co. find another way to commemorate their spectacular quest, and this time it is fuelled by their mascot, Ellie the Elephant.

The Liberty, in collaboration with Ellie, shared about their new sneaker line on Saturday, which is inspired by Ellie’s colorway of grey, teal, and black. In the picture posted on Instagram, the mascot can be seen holding the sneakers by their laces and having a merry time.

“Name a mascot with her own shoe? YOU CAN’T,” the post was captioned. Apart from that, the post also had a video of Ellie inside the Nike headquarters in NYC helping the professionals design the shoes. The first look was also shared by renowned WNBA reporter Khristina Williams on her X handle.

The sneaker Sabrina 2 By Big Ellie will have the iconic elephant print on heels on both the side and the upper part. In addition to that, it will also feature Ellie’s jersey number ’00’ at the heel and has tones of grey and black in marble print. The edition is designed with cushion carriers from the midsoles onwards and has an air zoom unit to not compromise on speed. Plus there are also rubber outsoles with an ‘S’ embedded in them. Even in the outsoles, the marble pattern continues.

A little style in place for Ionescu and the Liberty who ready themselves to sweat it out at the playoffs. However, these are not the only releases from the Liberty guard’s side.

Sabrina 2s to hit shelves in new colorways soon

Ionescu had signed a deal with Nike in 2020. Since then fans had anticipated that she would be coming up with her signature sneaker line. And the Oregon-alum did just that. In 2023, Ionescu’s Sabrina 1s hit the shelves followed up by Sabrina 2s in June this year. And now the 26-year-old has announced her decision to launch two special colorways of Sabrina 2s in October.

The news sneakers will be called ‘Relentless’ and ‘White Noise’ colorways which will hit the shelves on October 1st. Priced at a decent $130, the shoes will be available for purchase on the official Nike website, stores, and affiliated online retailers. The Relentless sneakers have an off-white cream color which is complimented by whites and the Nike swoosh across in black. Meanwhile, the White Noise colorway has a black canvas with the white color complimenting it which reminds a lot of fans about the Kobe 5.

Hopefully, Ionescu will get to adorn these for the playoff games past the date of release.

Beginning on Sunday, the Atlanta Dream will be their first opponents. And sitting atop the table and 3-1 in the regular season series, the team is expected a comfortable win. A win there, will lead them to a clash with the winner of the Round 1 series between the Las Vegas Aces and the Seattle Storm. A fourth title to go with the Sabrina 2s soon?
