The entire basketball fraternity is in a state of mourning for the unfortunate passing of Terry Jonz. This prominent radio announcer has been a part of many memorable Oregan moments and had the fans engaged with his magical voice.

Evidently, his narrating skills will be sorely missed by the entire Oregon women’s basketball family which includes its former point guard–Sabrina Ionescu.

The No.20 of the New York Liberty was one of the many popular names extending her condolences to Terry. She reshared a post on her story from the official Instagram women’s basketball page of the Oregon Ducks along with a heart emoji. The post features an eulogy from Oregon attached to a video that summarises Terry’s iconic career. In addition to this, there is a special segment in the video that displays Sabrina’s special moments with the Ducks. The eulogy states, “The entire Oregon women’s basketball family mourns the loss of our dear friend and long-time radio voice Terry Jonz. A legendary voice and an even better human being. Our thoughts are with his family through this difficult time.”

Terry was earlier diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and took his last breath on Feb 20. He’s survived by his wife, Stacy, his four daughters along with three grandchildren.

The departed had been calling Oregon’s games for almost two decades. He notably called his last women’s basketball game in March 2023. He was narrating for Oregon at a WNIT contest in Washington.

Apart from Sabrina, there were other popular names as well who couldn’t hide grief of Terry’s passing away.

Condolences have been pouring in from every quarter since the news of Terry’s death has surfaced. His long-time colleague Jerry Allen also expressed his sorrow for losing Jonz. He said, “Not a lot of words can express the feelings of loss and love for a wonderful man who was very much like a brother, and so beloved by the fans. I’m sure he has a courtside seat in heaven, waiting for us to join him one day to get the old broadcast team back together.”

Indeed, it is sad to experience that this legendary voice is not with us anymore. The kind of impact he created with his announcing skills added further excitement to the games. As a result, he has left a lasting legacy in the hearts and minds of all passionate Oregon fans.
