The New York Liberty social media team is on a roll after reaching the WNBA Finals for the second consecutive year. With every post, they’ve been cracking up the fans, sharing one meme after another, celebrating the victory over their arch-rivals, the Las Vegas Aces. Sabrina Ionescu was the standout star as New York took their revenge for the 2023 Finals loss and they did so in dominating fashion, sending the 2x defending champs packing after a 3-1 series win. However, while the Liberty’s Instagram account is living its best life, Ionescu isn’t rushing to pop the champagne just yet.

The team’s Instagram account decided to spice things up with a post featuring the 26-year-old in true New York style. She is standing in a bodega- those tiny stores where you get everything from snacks to lottery tickets, rocking a Yankees cap, Timberlands, and, of course, her New York Liberty jersey. All these things are the heart and soul of the New Yorker.

As if that wasn’t enough, the post was captioned “plays @jarule x New York Happy Monday, Libs Fam🗽.” The 26-year-old point guard initially commented, “Standing on business.” However, she quickly posted another comment, “But damn, it’s too early for this. 🤣🤣🤣” The fans’ responses flooded in, supporting her approach. One fan commented, “Won’t be happy til the job is done. Got that mamba mentality.”

Like the fan stated, Ionescu was one of NBA icon Kobe Bryant’s students and owes a lot to him. The Black Mamba’s iconic “Job’s not finished” statement after going 2-0 up against the Orlando Magic in the 2009 NBA Finals showed his mentality. That’s what Sab will be aspiring to do as well.

Sabrina Ionescu & Co. are eager to finish the job and bag the trophy. However, the Finals are where the true celebration awaits and anything less than the championship will be considered a failure, especially after the season New York has had. Nonetheless, the team’s social media handles have been at the top of their game throughout the playoffs. Right after the Game 4 win, Liberty’s social media started dropping witty memes.

It looks like Liberty’s social media team has been waiting for this win forever. The Instagram post isn’t their first time dropping some NYC heat. Previously, on X, the team’s handle shared a picture of the iconic Timberlands stomping on the Aces’ logo, captioned, “clears throat YERRRRRRRRRRRRRR 🗽.” These boots are practically part of the city’s DNA—tough, reliable, and full of attitude, just like the Liberty on the court.

Looking back, this matchup with the Aces had been brewing for a while. The two teams clashed in the 2023 WNBA Finals, and it was intense. While the Aces walked away with the trophy last year, the trash talk that followed left its mark. During the Aces’ championship parade, head coach Becky Hammon threw shade at Breanna Stewart’s rare 10-point performance in Game 4, saying, “(Three)-for-17 is all you need to talk about.”

Even Kelsey Plum also chimed in, claiming the Liberty didn’t “care about each other” and often reverted to “individual basketball” in big moments. Now, it seems the Liberty’s social media team is serving up a little payback with their post-game memes. Nevertheless, the Aces HC has clarified that there are no hard feelings.

“We talked our cr*p, they heard it, and they get to talk their cr*p. It’s part of the game, it’s not personal. They have been the best team all year. They earned it all year. This team was put together to take us out and they did,” she said. With the Finals around the corner, fans are crossing their fingers, hoping Sabrina Ionescu & Co. clinch the win this time!
