The struggle to transition from college to the WNBA is real. However, a few rookies are making records already. After Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark added glowing records to their resumes, Cameron Brink has also joined the bunch. While the night did not go as planned for the Los Angeles Sparks, Brink’s stellar performance blew everyone’s mind and WNBA’s stat sheets. In fact, the rookie has joined the WNBA legend and reigning Finals MVP for this accolade.

Tonight, in their matchup against the Dallas Wings at Crypto.com Arena, the visitors left a sour memory for the hosts with an 84-83 win. However, rookie Cameron Brink gave its young core stability on both ends of the floor tonight. The Naismith Defensive Player of the Year left the crowd of 10,340 in awe.

The LA Sparks shared Brink’s history-making moment on their official X account. With a photo of Brink, they captioned the tweet, @cameronbrink22 joins A’ja Wilson as the ONLY @WNBA players ever to score 12+ points with 2+ blocks in the opening quarter of a game.”

Even though foul troubles did not leave Cameron Brink alone yet again, as she picked up 5 personal fouls, she had a good contribution in the limited minutes. Tonight, the 6-ft-4 forward made a game-high 21 points with 58.3% accuracy from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. She currently leads the league in blocks per game with an average of 3.3 per game. Last night, she added 3 more. Brink also grabbed 2 rebounds and dished out 3 assists. Apart from these numbers, how is the former Cardinal doing in the W?

Cameron Brink: Los Angeles Sparks’ rookie asset

Head coach Curt Miller knew that with Cameron Brink, he was drafting a walking foul magnet. However, he also knew that he was picking a hooper who could bolster the team’s defense tenfold. The former Cardinal has swept a defensive honor almost every year that she was at Standford. Hence, it is no news that she is doing what she was always supposed to do.

Currently, the defensive menace is in the top 20 with an average of 6.8 rebounds. Among the rookies, her ranking for the stat is second, only trailing behind Angel Reese with 7.8 rebounds per game. But apart from defense, she has also been adding a decent average for the team’s scoring. Currently, she is third among rookies with 10.8 ppg, only behind Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. However, unlike those two, Clark is shooting a commendable 53% from the field and 43% from deep with almost 3 attempts per game.

The LA Sparks have now lost two games consecutively and have a 1-4 record. While Cameron Brink is being quite helpful to her new team, it looks like she definitely needs to work on her foul troubles to reduce giving away easy points. Next, the Sparks will travel to Indianapolis to try to redeem their previous home loss at the hands of Caitlin Clark and the Fever.
