The question of whether there is any resentment persisting within the WNBA veterans towards the 2024 rookie class has had many answers. While eminent NBA entities like LeBron James and Charles Barkley outrightly stated it to be true, woman ambassadors of the sport like A’ja Wilson and Chiney Ogwumike have clearly denied the existence of anything of the sort. Now, this angle gets through the lens of the Spark’s rookie Cameron Brink who reiterates her perspective in this regard.
The 2024 Lisa Leslie Award winner answered a range of questions related to her professional and personal life in a recent interview with the art, fashion, film, music, media, and literature magazine Flaunt. One of them was if she had faced any sort of resentment in her debut year as a pro. Consequently, she revisited the statements she made during her appearance on the podcast with former Clippers player Paul George. Brink said, “When it comes to the veterans, in my perspective, I know that we’re in the position we are in now because of the hard work they’ve been putting in and what they’ve been enduring”.
Following this, the former Stanford standout acknowledged the groundwork that the veterans have prepared for the current rookie lot over the years. She further added, “Now we get chartered flights, and for the years before all of this, they had to fly commercial, which doesn’t sound terrible, but it adds up on our bodies. Also in the past years, players had to share hotel rooms, which is just hard.”

Finally, Cameron Brink concluded her point by crediting the former players for all the attention on the rookies in present times. She opines that all this wouldn’t have been possible if not for their contributions. Brink expressed, “I think this new rookie class, we’ve brought some media attention, but from my standpoint, I recognize that they have helped us get to where we are”.
However, these weren’t the only interesting deductions from her interview.
Cameron Brink sleeping well amidst all the chaos
Cameron Brink’s season may have been cut short due to her recent ACL injury, but that didn’t stop the 6 ft 3 forward from soaking in the moment. On top of that, she manages not to let all the commotion affect her peace in any way.
Opening the conversation with this chain of thought, the 22-year-old said, “You know, you get the sleep you can. I think you just take advantage of the momentum that’s around the sport right now and the appearances, the podcast, they’re super fun”.

Many would believe that Cameron Brink would have had the same impact as that of Caitlin Clark or Angel Reese. Her rookie season might have ended on an unfortunate note, but there is still so much more that she can offer in her upcoming season. Her supporters will be eager to witness that transpire on the court soon.
