The WNBA viewership is rising, and it is all thanks to the 2024 rookie class that has attracted great talents. Not only has it contributed to the stellar performances on the hardwood but has also sparked more conversations around the pro league. And in one such conversation between the LSU star Flau’jae Johnson and her guest who is a 21-year-old rapper, he was urged by his inner baller to list some of his favorite basketball players.

On Thursday, rapper NLE Choppa appeared on Johnson’s podcast when he was asked to name the current top NBA players. “I gotta go with Kyrie, man, Choppa said, via Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae. He justified his choice by saying he picked Kyrie Irving because they both share the same position. However, the NBA isn’t the only league Choppa follows.

As the interview progressed, Choppa was asked to name his top three WNBA players. “I gotta go with Angel Reese, I gotta go with Caitlin Clark. I think both of them are great, you feel me,” Choppa told the LSU guard Johnson.

This WNBA regular season the rookies are making waves across the basketball world. Majorly it is Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, who have brought their large following to WNBA arenas. In May this year, WNBA arenas saw a significant increase in attendance, reaching up to 94% capacity. Thanks to their impressive performances and unwavering determination.

Fast forward to last week, Clark justified her acclaim by becoming the first WNBA rookie in history to record triple-doubles. Angel Reese, on the other hand, secured her 15th consecutive double-double in the last matchup against the Liberty. Choppa’s mention of Clark and Reese indicates that he is indeed following the WNBA. However, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark weren’t the only players he mentioned in the interview.

Since the rapper was asked to give out three names, he ended his reply with A’ja Wilson. “I gotta go with A’ja too. She’s a dawg”, Flau’jae added, “a super dawg,” On July 7, A’ja Wilson took home the award for best athlete in women’s sports at the ESPYS Awards.

This seems to be the major reason behind Choppa calling out Wilson as a “dawg.” Notably, a six-time All-Star (including this year’s vote), Wilson has solidified her presence in the WNBA by averaging the highest 27.0 points per game. This, consequently, led her to make this year’s USA Olympics roster.

As we are getting closer to the Paris Olympics, one real challenge before Team USA is waiting on July 20. At the Footprint Center, Wilson will be leading the USA roster for a face-off against an All-Star team featuring Sky’s star Reese and Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. Now the question is: Will she be able to defeat her newest rivals? Stay tuned to know!
