Geno Auriemma voicing his thoughts has once again got him in the middle of debates. During a recent appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” he said, “The delusional fanbase that follows her disrespected the WNBA players by saying she’s going to go in that league and tear it apart,” As he called Clark’s fan base “delusional” whereas Clark “set up for failure”, his statement raised eyebrows of many. And Paul Pierce was one of them.

In a recent appearance on UNDISPUTED, Paul Pierce said, “I mean, it’s just like the other day you were defending her, and then I hear these harsh remarks. I mean, what’s going on? Did he open one of those bottles? I saw about seven bottles sitting behind him. Did he open one of those bottles up and then come back with this statement today?

Indiana Fever rookie, Clark’s last 11 games have been a rough ride leaving her rookie season open to the scrutiny of many. “I mean, we understand the pressure on Caitlin Clark. We understand the notoriety she’s given the WNBA, but give her some time. She’s a rookie; I mean, what are you expecting right now?” he added. But why does Clark need “a break?”

Glancing at Caitlin Clark’s performance

Since making it to Indiana Fever as a WNBA Draft No. 1 pick, Clark has been a vital reason for the WNBA’s tremendous viewership growth. Despite this, Clark has not gotten the desired welcome from her mates at a professional level. Till now, she’s been subject to the physicality of the game, the most recent episode of which was Chennedy Carter‘s retroactive Flagrant 1 foul in Saturday’s matchup for hip-checking Clark.

Consequently, Clark as of now averages 15.6 points, 6.4 steals, and 5.1 rebounds. During her NCAA days, Clark had the record for scoring the most points by any basketball player with 3951 points. Not only this, but she averaged 28.4 points in each game she played for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Considering all these stats, the Iowa native’s potential should no longer be a doubt. And, that’s why even Paul Pierce backs her up against Geno, “give the girl a break. I mean, we’ve been critical of her but we praised her” hinting at her impressive stats. He added, “I just want to enjoy what she’s brought to the game I’m enjoying watching WNBA on a whole new level more than I ever have before”.

Caitlin Clark’s effect is quite evident in the WNBA as viewers are spending thousands of dollars just to catch her glimpse. Notably, in her controversial Sky vs. Fever matchup, the highest ticket was sold for $3000. Overall, all this makes it crystal clear that the world is waiting for her to shine on the court.
