“She’s definitely the frontrunner, so to speak”. That is how 247Sports expert contributor Brandon Clay feels about UConn’s standout Paige Bueckers about the landscape of the 2025 WNBA drafts. While not many would disagree with him, the question that will be on the minds is where is she headed? As it turns out, some fair deductions can be drawn about her possible future if we keep some fan fantasies in mind.
The Indiana Fever had a very dreaded start to their season. A dismal record of 1-8 marked the start to their 2024 WNBA campaign, which directed towards an 8th straight season without a playoff appearance. Anyhow, with the help of Caitlin Clark, the franchise soon turned the tides in their favor.
Before the team could go into an Olympic break, an 11-15 win-loss record strengthens their playoff chances. But, this also means that there is a very strong likelihood of them not getting the privilege of having the top draft choice. And by the looks of some recent trends, the pick appears to be UConn’s current No.5–Paige Bueckers.

Currently, the Dallas Wings are favorites to grab the bragging rights to the 2025 first-round picks. The other teams in the hunt are the Washington Mystics, LA Sparks and Minnesota Lynx. This is what some mock drafts suggest. These drafts are solely based on the over/under win projections for every team.
Anyhow, that doesn’t stop the fans from conveying some hypothetical situations.
Do fans want Paige Bueckers teaming up with Caitlin Clark?
The common notion here is no. And there are several reasons behind that. One of them is the Fever’s defense this season. Evidently, the Indiana Fever has conceded an average of 87.3 points this season. This is the second worst in the league and it places them just behind the Dallas Wings. Keeping that in mind, one fan wrote, “The Fever’s problem isn’t offense, its defense”.

The arrival of Caitlin Clark into the Indiana Fever was an absolute delight for the fans. But, some severe criticisms have headed the way for head coach Christie Sides with the way she was handling the rookie. So much so, that many believed Sides has the potential to ruin Clark’s career. Now, some carry the exact chain of thought with respect to Bueckers. Expressing it, one of them wrote, “Paige deserves better than Christie Sides”.
Paige Bueckers led an inspirational season for the Huskies. Compiling an average of 22.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.2 steals, she was an instrumental reason for Geno Auriemma taking UConn to their 23rd Final Four appearance. Expecting her to imitate something similar for the Dallas Wings who are having a grim season is what some fans want. Therefore, one wrote, “Paige Bueckers is the only reason I am not in a complete state of despair about this Wings season”.
Caitlin Clark is currently having a very fiery rivalry with Angel Reese. Their on-court back-and-forth battle has become must-see entertainment for WNBA enthusiasts. On top of that, it has also spiced up the Rookie Of The Year race. But, they play in different positions. As Caitlin Clark is a point guard, some people now want that a player with similar expertise should go toe-to-toe with her. Conveying this thought and wanting Mystics to grab Bueckers, one fan wrote, “Mystics gets paige and forms a guard rivalry with fever, like the bigs liberty vs aces rivalry”.
Meanwhile, many opine that Indiana Fever is still a young squad. It is essential for them to develop some chemistry so that their next season turns out even better. At the same time, their issues related to the guard position are sorted with the presence of Caitlin Clark. Now they need to focus on the shortcomings of other areas. And, the addition of Bueckers will do them no good. Carrying this narrative forward, one expressed, “what lol this is not happening. Fever have other positions they need to focus on first”.
