The Seattle Storm clashed with the Washington Mystics in a one-sided match on Saturday. The game which took place at Climate Pledge Arena saw the Storm decimate the Mystics by a blowout margin of 101-69. Beyond Storm’s unrivaled display throughout most of the game, another thing that caught the fancy of many was Aaliyah Edwards playing against her former University of Connecticut Huskies teammate Nika Muhl. And their UConn family especially Paige Bueckers was extremely happy to see the duo together.

Bueckers took to her social media networking platform Instagram to share a special message for the two. The warmth of the trio’s relationship was explicit.

Bueckers posted a story on Instagram on Sunday that displayed the perpetual connection among the three. She had shared a post from Sportscentre that had Muhl and Edwards hugging each other. The post was titled with visuals of “Nika Muhl and Aaliyah Edwards reunite” Bueckers shared the post and captioned it as “My sisters” with an emotional emoticon.

Notably, Edwards and Muhl share a strong bond since their days at the NBA’s women’s academy in 2019. They were roommates during the entire stay and after that; the duo selected the University of Connecticut as their college from 2020-24. Therefore the relationship between the two strengthened since then. Playing together for four years and taking on the responsibilities together after Bueckers and Azzi Fudd tackled injuries only brought them closer. In this match, however, the performance of the two was average.

Edwards could only pot a paltry 4 points with 5 rebounds in the 28 minutes she played. Meanwhile, Muhl found it difficult to open her account and also did not ply her trade for a substantial time. Nonetheless, the meeting was special since the two were playing as opponents for the first time in the WNBA. Their third sister Bueckers has gone back to the Huskies to complete another year with them. Previously, Muhl was also excited about the reunion.

Muhl had expressed her happiness in meeting Edwards on the big stage. She drew attention to the fact that Edwards was mostly overshadowed by Bueckers and Fudd when in fact she had played a pivotal role in helping UConn be a part of the NCAA tournament, especially during her final year in which she averaged a whopping 17.6 points per game with 9.2 rebounds per match.

“Oh, my God! I’m very excited. Aaliyah’s been doing so great. I’m very proud of her. The way she’s you know… melted into that team and she looks so comfortable and um, she deserves the world,” Muhl stated.
