By the time Kamilla Cardoso was drafted to the Chicago Sky, it was her towering presence that made an impact. Cardoso’s 6’7″ frame puts her among the tallest players in the league. Though she hasn’t claimed dominance yet, her height sets her apart in every game with the Sky. But not anymore, as Brittney Griner, standing two inches taller than Cardoso is looking to change that narrative in the upcoming game against the Chicago Sky.

Griner, along with her team, the Phoenix Mercury, will be traveling to Chicago for their August 15th match against the Sky. But before locking horns, Griner has a message for the Chicago Sky rookie. “I mean, I’m just looking forward to the game… I don’t really hit the goal against people my size really ever, so I’m just looking forward to that,” Griner revealed to Desert Waves News.

Though Cardoso is two inches shorter, she remains the closest to matching Griner’s 6’9 frame. Sure enough, the game is going to be exciting for all, especially as it’s the first time Griner will face Cardoso this season. While Griner is coming off her third Olympic gold, Cardoso will be back on the turf after making the most of her Olympics break.

Who’s better? To name one, Griner definitely has an edge. Cardoso has started in 15 of her 18 games this season, averaging 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds. Griner, on the other hand, features 18.6 points with 6.4 rebounds per contest. But even Cardoso can hand Griner a bitter loss. How?

Pheonix Mercury vs Chicago Sky

In all the games, Cardoso has served as Chicago Sky’s two-way rookie force in the painted area. It’s her and the “Chi-town Barbie.” Griner will face even more competition from Angel Reese, who’s vying to add another double-double to her 15-consecutive streak. More over, the two have joined forces thrice this season to record a double-double each. That makes it the most joint double-doubles by a rookie duo in WNBA history.

In addition, scoring phenom Chennedy Carter, with an illustrious 51.8 field goal percentage, is anticipated to make a return.

Since Carter is out on a day-to-day basis, it’s expected that she’ll return for tonight’s game. If that happens, the trio of young talent in the Chicago Sky’s hands will see minutes against Griner. Sure enough, Griner’s Phoenix Mercury will be no less. Mercury center Griner will be accompanied by one of the most experienced players in the league, Diana Taurasi.
