Caitlin was quite competitive as a child and wanted to win every game she was involved in. Much of her beginning can be attributed to her father who was a 4-sport athlete at Indianola High School and plied his trade as a basketball and baseball athlete while attending Simpson College. He also coached a second-grade team at the AAU state tournament. They didn?t move around much during her childhood and used to attend games of the Minnesota Lynx with her father. Though Lynx was the closest team to her hometown, it was a distance of almost three and a half hours travel. But that didn?t discourage the future champion from attending their matches.

Whereas Clark?s mother is of Italian descent. Though she wasn?t very active in sports, her father was a football coach at the Dowling Catholic High School. In addition to sports, Caitlin also took piano lessons and loved spending time with her mother in the kitchen. They would bake sweets and her mother has many-a-times invited the Iowa Hawkeyes to dine with them. Caitlin?s mother provided complete support to her daughter and according to her Caitlin plays better when there are many members of her family attending her game.

The 21-year-old?s parents were by her side even when she got the Naismith Player of the Year award and were delighted to be a part of the ceremony. As per WHO13 News, her mother opened up about Clark?s journey: “Quite amazing. It’s just been a fabulous journey this far and [we’re] super proud of her.”

Whereas her father took this moment to thank other players of her team: “It’s more than just an individual award. It’s really a team award… the assist element of the game is such an important element of her game, and you don’t achieve those assists without your teammates.”
