This season has brought unprecedented attention to the league, courtesy of two names that already had their path carved out from the start, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Despite how their teams have been performing on the court, Clark and Reese have given an outstanding display since the beginning of their WNBA careers. However, there is one rookie who just got one step ahead of them.
In the Los Angeles Sparks’ recent matchup against the Dallas Wings, rookie Rickea Jackson registered 25 points, 6 3-pointers, and 3 blocks. Despite the Sparks taking the fall, Jackson’s feat is making heads turn.

She made history by becoming the first-ever rookie in the league to have a single-game feat, especially when all the other feats were being clinched by Clark and Reese. It’s been three games since the season resumed with Jackson holding tight onto the scoring as she currently averages 12.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, and has been making 24-of-76 shots from beyond the arc.
Moving on, Clark and Reese picked up their Rookie of the Year battle coming back from the All-Star break. Recording 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists in Indiana’s 92-75 victory against Seattle, Clark set the record for most assists by a rookie in a single season. Meanwhile, Reese put out a 19-point and 20-rebound game in Chicago’s recent 86-68 loss to the Mercury.
Already, Clark owns the record for the most assists in a WNBA game and is currently in the vicinity of breaking the league’s single-season assists mark. On the other hand, Reese’s rebounding prowess has been the talk of the town this season with Reese turning into the fastest player to record 20 double-doubles in the league’s history, and needs 2 more to set a league record.

Angel Reese’s historic rebounding night
It was not long ago when Angel Reese surpassed WNBA legend Candace Parker after she scored 17 points and 14 rebounds against Seattle and set a new record of 13 consecutive double-doubles in a single season. Today as well, she is continuing with the same highlight as she matched up her season rebounds to that of Tina Charles at 22 when she was a rookie.

Even a matchup against the Las Vegas Aces that took place some hours back, saw Reese scoring 11 points and 22 rebounds, despite Sky’s loss of 77-75. With this, she became the first WNBA player to have back-to-back 20 rebound games. The last NBA player to hit the 20-rebound mark for three straight games was Ben Wallace in 2003 during his Detroit Pistons days.
Now, there is no stopping Reese as she is on the path to breaking records and becoming the rookie with the most recorded rebounds in a single season. Moreover, Reese will successfully raise the bar for future talents, with 11 games still left to be played in the regular season.
