“… obviously it makes the transition a little bit easier,” Caitlin Clark told the ‘IndyStar‘ after being drafted by the Indiana-based franchise. Already having a support system in the city—her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery—the change was something she looked forward to. McCaffery was previously a coaching assistant with the Indiana Pacers and assumed the assistant coaching position with the Butler Bulldogs from September onwards. Switching to the Bulldogs meant that the couple wouldn’t be in the same facility anymore. But distance wasn’t a problem as they would be just a few miles apart, which a 20-minute drive could cover.
When McCaffery was with the Indiana Pacers, the couple shared the Gainbridge Fieldhouse Arena and were often spotted working out together. But with McCaffery going back to the NCAA world, he would be practicing at the Hinkle Fieldhouse. Hence, looking at the proximity of the two, many expected that the couple would be together in the offseason. But McCaffery’s update tells us otherwise.
On Friday, the Iowa Hawkeyes freshman Austin Ash posted snaps from a wedding on his Instagram account with McCaffery in the fourth pic of the carousel. “Wedding season ✅,” Ash had captioned the post.

McCaffery, standing with his group of boys, wearing a white shirt and black bow tie, was smiling ear to ear. He had also commented a four-word message, “Hell of a run.” However, much to fans’ dismay, Clark was not standing beside him. People were surely disappointed to see the ROTY award winner absent. While we don’t know whether the first-overall pick was invited or not to the wedding, there is a possibility that Clark and her team are working on their offseason priorities. But hey, fans got to see the couple together just a few days ago!

After she was declared as the number one pick, she went to hug McCaffery, who was present to cheer for her at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Posting the same picture on her Instagram story, Clark captioned it “Connor-M30, I’m so lucky.” Surely, she must have won the hearts of her fans with this move, as it was also National Boyfriend’s Day.
McCaffery too reciprocated the love he was receiving by resharing the post announcing her girlfriend’s achievements on his Instagram handle along with this picture. In fact, Clark has posted about her boyfriend several times in the past.
In July, she wished McCaffery a very happy birthday by sharing some adorable pictures on Instagram and captioned it, “Happy Birthday Con! Celebrating you is easy 🙂 thankful to have someone as selfless and as loving as you in my life May this be the year you finally find a way to outshoot me 😉 Love you always.”
