A'ja Wilson joining Louis Vuitton—Is this the ultimate crossover between sports and high fashion?

The WNBA star A’ja Wilson made headlines when she inked a deal with Nike during her rookie year in 2018. Since then, she has appeared in a lot of endorsements which recently culminated in her first shoe deal. And now, the 27-year-old has expressed her wish to join one of Pharrell Williams’ sponsored companies. But will this wish to join the billion-dollar fashion company manifest itself?

Wilson was present in an interview with Footwear News when she decided to humorously express her desire to move to Williams’ brand – Louis Vuitton. “Pharrell could just knock on my door. Knock on my door with one of those iridescent Louis duffels, put an A logo on there and I’m set. I can come to a couple shows, sit there, look all interested in the people walking. It doesn’t take much to make me happy,” Wilson stated, via Footwear News.

Williams has a major deal with two brands – Adidas and Louis Vuitton. While Williams collaborated with Adidas on carbon-plated shoes, the 51-year-old was announced as the creative director at LV in February 2023. He succeeded Virgil Abloh at the high-end luxury leather goods company and the $342.67 billion dollar market cap brand saw an able successor in him as his influence spanned art, music, and fashion. Hence, Williams might be a good person to help Wilson if she wants to come into the same space.

Meanwhile, Wilson will be getting her sneakers that will be launched in 2025 as part of her Nike deal. After Caitlin Clark got her shoe deal in April, there was a lot of buzz around why Wilson who has 7 years of experience in the WNBA wasn’t getting her due. Thankfully for fans, she shut her critics in time by announcing her sneaker deal in May this year. As for Louis Vuitton, Wilson has often been spotted sporting an LV bag multiple times and fans connect her with the luxury brand which makes her an apt celebrity to endorse it. However, that wasn’t her only lucrative agreement this year.

A’ja Wilson had signed another major deal this year

Wilson also inked a deal with Gatorade this year in May when she joined the likes of Paige Bueckers and Clark. The 2x MVP was applauded for her achievements as the Gatorade’s head of sports marketing, Jeff Kearney expressed his excitement at “fueling her” when she increased her “impact in sport and beyond.”

The 2x WNBA Champion is slated to release her first marketing campaign with Gatorade in the spring of this year. She, thus, solidified her space in the competitive market with this multi-year endorsement deal.
