Before the season even rolled in, the Seattle Storm had already found themselves knee-deep in drama. Jewell Loyd—the face of the franchise—was traded. The whole harassment allegations situation blew up. And just when fans were hoping for some calm, another hit. Both Nika Muhl and Jordan Horston are out for the season. But amidst all the chaos, a familiar face decided to roll back into town like she never left—Gabby Williams.

And trust us, she’s coming in hot.

Now, losing Horston is no small blow. The Storm had big plans for her. She was supposed to be a cornerstone. A player to build this young, promising squad around. But even with that heartbreak, Storm fans can breathe a little easier knowing they’ve got a vet like Gabby back in the mix.

Lately, the veteran forward has been on a mission with Fenerbahçe in EuroLeague Women. She’s been doing Gabby things, making tough plays look smooth and easy ones count big. Fenerbahçe literally had a 15-game winning streak. Pressure was on. Expectations were sky high. But sadly, despite Storm’s star’s strong performance, Fenerbahçe did not win the title in Zaragoza. They were aiming for a historic three-peat but were defeated in the semifinals.

It must be a heartbreak, but just days later, Williams delivered an outstanding performance in the Turkish Women’s Basketball Super League title-clinching game for Fenerbahçe. She dropped 13 points, dished out 10 assists, grabbed 6 boards, and swiped 4 steals. The Storm hyped her up on IG with “Congrats Champ! 🏆” Wasting no time, Muhl reposted it with a silent yet sweet reaction, “🥰”. A quiet nod to a teammate she won’t get to suit up with this season, but still fully rooting for.

And while we sadly won’t see the Gabby-Nika link-up this year, Storm’s got another spicy combo brewing, Williams and Dominique Malonga. Yes, the French duo is set to take the W by storm for Storm.

Gabby is already known as that high-motor, lockdown defender who can flip a game on either end of the court. Her Olympic résumé is stacked. In France’s run to silver, she averaged 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.8 steals. And not to forget, she nearly pushed Team USA to OT with a dagger shot in the final seconds of the gold medal game.

And the sensational rookie from France has already got fans buzzing. At 6-foot-6 with a 7-foot-1 wingspan, she’s what people love to call a unicorn. But the cherry on top has to be that Gabby and Dominique already know what it’s like to win together.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Gabby Williams and Dominique Malonga become the most electrifying duo in Seattle Storm history?

Have an interesting take?

They balled out for France during the 2024 Paris Olympics, clinching a silver medal side-by-side. And yes, they’ve played for the same club too—ASVEL Féminin, a top French squad. So there’s chemistry already baked in. That trust. That rhythm. And for a Storm team in the middle of a transition, that’s gold. The franchise knows it and wasted no time sealing the deal.

Storm locks in their future superstar

It’s official! Dominique Malonga is in the building. The Seattle Storm selected the 19-year-old French phenom with the second overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, and on Friday, they sealed the deal by signing her to a rookie-scale contract. She’s not just a draft dream anymore, she’s about to suit up and make noise in the league.

With this, the Storm might’ve pulled off one of the biggest steals of the draft. Sure, Paige Bueckers went first (and rightfully so), and the Mystics also had themselves a good night.  But Malonga might just have the highest ceiling of the entire class. What does she bring? Explosive athleticism and the kind of versatility that makes coaches grin like they just hit the lottery. She can dunk, run the floor like a guard, and swat shots into next week.

Offensively, she can finish strong at the rim, operate in pick-and-rolls, and isn’t afraid to let it fly from deep. Defensively, you don’t want to be driving into the paint when she’s lurking. Her instincts are on point, and with that length, she’s basically a walking matchup nightmare.

Seattle had to get this pick right after trading away Jewell Loyd. They weren’t just looking for talent, they were looking for the next face of the franchise. And if you ask us, Malonga might just be it. She’s raw, sure, but she’s got all the tools to be a two-way star and turn this team into a serious contender.
