Can Nika Muhl bounce back stronger, or is this injury a sign of more struggles ahead?

As the W rookies are rejoicing in having a good season, one star who must be possibly worried is the former UConn Huskies guard Nika Muhl. She was drafted in the second round and despite being a core Huskies star; she did not get much time on the court for the Seattle Storm. If that wasn’t enough, her Besiktas debut on Wednesday ended with a possible injury scare, which looks to have continued her misery.

UConn reporter Daniel Connolly tweeted about Muhl’s knee injury in her debut game. “Nika Mühl went down with an apparent knee injury in her first game in Europe just now. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked,” Connolly stated. Muhl was representing the Besiktas during a game against the Fenerbahce. She plied her trade on the court for 27 minutes 48 seconds and hit 11 points with 3 rebounds and 9 assists. After a tough W season, she was just looking to make a comeback albeit her injury looks to have marred her plans. Ultimately, the Fenerbahce won the game by a 79-63 margin.

In a video posted on X as per NHRegister, Muhl goes for a rebound outside the key and lands uncomfortably on her left leg. She falls to the ground while holding her left knee. A stretcher is then called into the game to take her off the court as medical staff attend to her.

Fans have their fingers crossed, hoping that Muhl gets going soon. This was another major disappointment for the Storm’s #1 after a difficult W season.

When the Huskies star Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd were injured, Muhl took on a central role for the team. Therefore, coming into the W, it was expected that the 23-year-old would be entrusted with responsibilities. However, a strong Seattle Storm team did not give her many chances to show her potential. Though she played in the preseason game against the Phoenix Mercury, once the season started, opportunities came slowly to her.

Have an interesting take?

She would usually be rotated for single-digit minutes which would have done nothing but hurt her confidence. The maximum time she got in a W game was against the Mercury during the Storm’s last regular season game when she also scored her first points. Overall, in the 16 games she played, she only scored a paltry 2 points. And now in her Besiktas debut, once again she looks on the brink of not being given major responsibilities if the injury turns out to be serious.

While Muhl did not have a pleasant WNBA season, nonetheless once she came to Europe, her mother expressed trust in her. She posted a picture of Muhl outside the team arena with a flexed bicep and an eagle emoji. Fans were expecting that she could make herself a career overseas when her W career looked to be short and deprived of opportunities. However, that looks to have come to a sudden end. Right now all fans can do is pray for her and hope she comes out unscathed.
