The WNBA championship title defense has reached the playoffs stage. And who would have thought legends from two different sports would have something to do with it? While Tom Brady‘s happiness could reach its elevation with 2x WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson’s contributions, Dwyane Wade has an all-new experience awaiting him in the post-season now.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces are moving forward with a line-up unchanged from their maiden Championship-winning roster last year.

41-year-old Dwyane Wade has first-hand on-court experience of laying a path for a championship defense as a player. However, as an owner, the Flash has never experienced this thrill, from the corporate box or the sidelines. The Chicago Sky’s 2023 Playoff spot can be paralleled with Wade’s good friend LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers and their late playoff reservation last season.
Meanwhile, Tom Brady owns a minority share in the Las Vegas Aces, and if the Brady magic is real, the Aces might secure a successful title defense.
While the Las Vegas Aces display a Golden State Warriors-like mentality and domination on the court, A’ja Wilson has conquered her career-high in multiple stats during the regular season. Just a month back, she matched the WNBA’s single-game scoring record by putting 53 against the Atlanta Dream.
The record that remained with disgruntled former WNBA player Liz Cambage was matched by the Aces 6’4″ forward.
If she is carrying her career-best form this season, you can lay your bet for incredible performances in the playoffs, unless Wade whispers some unbeatable insights for his Chicago Sky players.
A thrilling battle between MVP candidates
This has been nothing short of a thrilling record-breaking season for the WNBA. On an individual level, this season will be etched in WNBA history as a thrilling MVP contest between reigning champion A’ja Wilson and New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart.
After leading conferences in their respective categories, both the Aces and the Liberty have demonstrated on-court excellence throughout the regular season, settling 34-6 and 32-8 records respectively after 40 games.

While A’Ja Wilson has two WNBA MVPs to her credit, 29-year-old Stewart has two WNBA Championship titles along with two Finals MVPs. But despite facing every opponent’s best shot this season, the Aces won the league’s top postseason seed and set multiple records.

The Las Vegas Aces’ incredible run this season
Last year’s postseason experience could help Las Vegas as it opens the playoffs against the Chicago Sky on Wednesday night. The number one-seeded Aces won 94-87 in their last meeting on August 24, while the Sky covered as a 14.5-point underdog as the Over (171.5) connected. That was a recurring pattern, as Vegas won all three regular-season matchups, while Chicago covered all three games.
The dominant team will qualify for the next round while giving a glimpse into the series opener later this evening.
