Sheryl Swoopes’ rivalry with Caitlin Clark has been one of the most interesting storylines of this season. While Clark kept on defying odds in the W, the legend continued uplifting her benchmark for appreciation when it came to Clark. However, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame looks to have expressed their point of view on their alleged feud and the fans are loving it!

“The HOF with next level trolling. 🤣🤣🤣🤣,” one fan commented when the Fever beat writer Scott Agness on Sunday tweeted a picture of a Clark standing below the Swoopes HOF spot. In his tweet, Agness wrote, “Walking around the Basketball HOF and Caitlin Clark is already featured. Just a 22-year-old rookie. Not bad. Also, bonus points for whose banner she is below…” Of course, the fans were quick to notice the apparent response that the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame gave, hinting at their love to see more of the rivalry.

The fans interpreted this as trolling by the HOF, especially after a one-sided beef, with Swoopes undermining Clark’s achievements throughout the season.

The 4x WNBA Champion, for her achievements, was also called the Michael Jordan of women’s basketball. She bagged the MVP title thrice, apart from making the WNBA popular with exceptional performances for her team- the Houston Comets. Hence, she was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame along with the NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in 2016. As for the women’s basketball Hall of Fame induction in 2017, Swoopes expressed her happiness for being honored in Houston where she “accomplished so much during my professional career.” And some say it is her achievements, that have caused issues with Clark.

Therefore, when the No. 22 found a place under her banner in the HOF, her fans were amused by the situation.

Caitlin Clark fans are happy about the HOF’s mess-up

What’s your perspective on:

Is the HOF trolling a sign of respect or just adding fuel to the Swoopes-Clark fire?

Have an interesting take?

The Swoopes-Clark one-sided saga started in 2023 when the ‘Iowa sensation’ took her team to their first Championship title game. During the NCAA playoffs, she scored 191 points, breaking the previous best by Swoopes of 177 points. At that time, the Hall of Famer had come forward to point out that Clark had reached the milestone in 6 games, one matchup more than how many Swoopes had needed during her time. And since then, Swoopes has tried to neglect Clark’s importance on countless occasions. But with HOF bringing them together again, the Clark fans cannot help but laugh at the fact.

Someone who needs a raise,” one fan commented. The user considered this an act of rebellion and pointed out how one authority in the HOF department should get a raise for this action. While there were many other players like Kelsey Plum who were featured in the ceremony, placing the No. 22 right under the WNBA icon felt a little strategic.

🤣🙄🙄🙄THATS AWESOME!!!! Who ever did is my HERO!!! 🤣🤣🤣,” another fan commented. Swooeps has tried to downplay Clark’s achievements on numerous occasions. Firstly, in the first half of the season, she talked about how Angel Reese was important to the Chicago Sky but not Clark to Indiana. But when the point guard took the Fever to the playoffs, instead of acknowledging her balling prowess, she reflected that this was a team effort that involved Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, Lexie Hull, and Katie Lou Samuelson. Thus, the fan was happy that someone from the authority had taken a dig at Swoopes.

“i mean they ain’t wrong 🤫,” another fan opined. Clark this season was the first rookie to hit a triple-double. And she has two of those already. Then she also ended this season as the assist leader in a single season. Even with her three-pointers, she stood at the second spot, in the list of highest made in a single season, behind Sabrina Ionescu. As for her points, she was the rookie with the most this season. For her accomplishments, she bagged the ROTY. Therefore, the user was most probably hinting that in a few years, Clark will also get a place in the HOF.

“I believe a piece of the net and the scorebook from CC breaking the NCAA scoring record are on display at the HOF too.,” another social media user revealed. Though the banner of the 2x National Player of the Year was dressed in the Indiana jersey, the fan pointed out that even Clark’s poster is in the HOF office since she had surpassed the legendary Pete Maravich to become the all-time leading scorer in the NCAA during her final season. Hence, as per the user, it was no surprise that Clark’s banner was present there.

“@IndianaFever social media team: did you do this?,” another fan went as far as tagging the Indiana Fever team and asking if they were behind this. Notably, Swoopes had failed to acknowledge Clark’s contribution to the Fever throughout the season. At one point in time, Swoopes went silent for the entire 50 seconds when in August her co-commentator lauded Clark for winning Player of the Week. On the other hand, Indiana’s official account has not missed a single opportunity to showcase its talented ROTY. Therefore, the fan exaggerated the joke by pointing out that the Fever could have done it.

Well, for now, Clark can enjoy her off-season and Swoopes too can take a rest. While it is quite clear that the fans already see Caitlin Clark among the Hall of Famers one day, it is certainly interesting to see what Naismith HOF thinks too.
