The Chicago Sky star Angel Reese inked one of the most important deals of her life in October last year when she signed with the sports giant Reebok. The billion-dollar brand, once at the helm of sporting events, was in its rebuilding phase under the NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. In an attempt to grow their fanbase, Reebok gave Reese what she deserved the most – her signature sneakers. Apparently, the 22-year-old, much like her Uncle Shaq, wanted one particular from her signature sneakers. And Senior VP of Product, Portia Blunt, revealed the same recently.

Blunt was present in a conversation with CBS Sports on Friday when she reflected on Reese’s one condition that was quite similar to Shaq, which Reebok accepted this time.“Similar to O’Neal, Reese was clear she wanted her collection to be “accessible” and “wearable” for everyone, not just a select few,” CBS reported.

“She knows her fans are on all places of the spectrum and she wanted to make sure the products with her likeness, her name on it, are something people will be able to afford. we wanted to take that to heart,” Blunt said, via CBS Sports.

Shaq had turned down a $40 million deal with Reebok in 1998. For a considerable part of his career, he donned his sneakers known as Shaq Attaq and Shaqnosis. But, the NBA legend recently revealed on the Full Send Podcast that he was stopped by a woman who criticized him for selling such high-priced shoes, after which he had to end his Reebok deal. The case for Angel Reese is no different, but this time it’s leading to a positive collaboration.

Reese has currently released three shoes in collaboration with Reebok. While the Reebok x Angel BB 4000 II are priced at a decent $110, the Reebok x Angel Premier Road Plus VI Shoes are the costliest sneakers and cost $120. Meanwhile, the most economical pair of the lot is the Reebok x Angel Classic Leather Shoes which are available for just $100. Hence, it looks like Reebok has accepted Reese’s demand and manufactured shoes that can be bought by her fans easily. Meanwhile, Shaq did share more details about the lady who slammed him.

Shaquille O’Neal recollects the incident that led him to break ties with Reebok

Shaq had an offer for a five-year, $40 million deal with Reebok, but he wanted the shoes to be accessible to most of his fans. This realization started with a lady who took a jibe at him. As per Shaq, he was “leaving the area one day” when a lady approached him. The woman criticized the high cost of the shoe, noting that her children had to buy expensive ones. “You’re charging these babies all this money for these shoes,” the lady exclaimed.

Did Shaq's bold move with Reebok pave the way for Angel Reese's success? What do you think?

Shaq who understood the lady’s anger offered her $2000 which she rejected. Instead, she took a dig at Shaq and Reebok by giving back the money and asking, “Why don’t you motherf—ers make a shoe that’s affordable?” That incident changed how Shaq looked at sneakers and the result was his own company.

However, Angel Reese looks to have cracked the code with Reebok, and her shoes are priced reasonably. Hopefully, each of her fans will be able to get their hands on the shoes before they are sold out.
