The WNBA has now come to its final stretch with just two weeks of the regular season left to be played, but what has remained the most exciting discussion among the enthusiasts is still the MVP race. While many believe A’ja Wilson is a clear pick for the award, one more name that has been involved throughout that conversation is Napheesa Collier, the Minnesota Lynx star who just last month dazzled with record-breaking numbers against none other than Wilson’s Aces. But is it really just the stats that make her deserving of the MVP title?
If you ask that question to one of Napheesa Collier’s newest teammates at the Lynx, it’s clear her value goes far beyond just stats. Courtney Williams, who joined the team this season, recently shared what truly makes Collier an MVP-level talent. “Man, I think what makes Phee [Napheesa] so great is that she can be coached by anybody. It doesn’t matter. Like, she’s so coachable.” stated Williams on the Minnesota Lynx official channel. Collier, who has been playing under one of the great league coaches Cheryl Reeve, made history this season when she scored at least 115 points, grabbed 50 rebounds, and recorded 25 or more steals and blocks, along with 20 assists in any five-game stretch.
Well, it’s not just Collier’s adaptability that makes her special as her teammate revealed another admirable trait. “When you putting up the type of numbers that she putting up and you a superstar, like it’s so hard to meet for me, personally. I can only speak for myself but Phee is the most humble superstar I’ve ever been around. Like she, you would just think, she just a, a role player,” mentioned Williams, who has nearly completed a full season alongside Collier.

The 27-year-old forward was also credited for her ability to take responsibility and step up as a team leader motivating her teammates to strive for success. Leading the team in points, rebounds, and steals, she’s consistently delivered impressive numbers, averaging 20.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. While Courtney Williams’ praise might come from a place of teammate admiration, even another MVP contender is in awe of the Lynx star’s exceptional performance.
Caitlin Clark was shocked by Napheesa Collier’s performance

Just last night, the Lynx cruised to a solid win over the Indiana Fever, thanks to Napheesa Collier, who led the game with 26 points. Not far behind was Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, who scored 25 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory for her team. This marked Clark’s second loss to the Lynx since the Olympic break. When the rookie- also an MVP contender -faced Collier earlier in August, she was just impressed with the Lynx forward.
“She does so much for her team. There were a few times she made a few shots and I caught myself like ‘dang, can’t guard that,'” said Clark in the postgame interview. Collier had an excellent outing in the game as she scored 31 points and grabbed five rebounds in the game.Just before the face-to-face, the Minnesota Lynx star made headlines by becoming the first WNBA player to record 25+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 5+ assists on over 70% shooting—against another MVP contender, A’ja Wilson. As the regular season wraps up, Napheesa Collier’s remarkable stats, leadership, and humility continue to bolster her MVP candidacy. With accolades from teammates and competitors alike, her MVP bid is increasingly compelling.
