The very nickname ‘Ace’ of the 3x WNBA champion, Candace Parker, reflects her mentality. However, while wanting to win every competition is a great attitude, it is also improbable. So, how is the mother of a youngling and a teen handling her parenting? Well, for one, she is not teaching her children to be good at losing.
Talking about how parents today are only preaching to their kids to be good to others, even at a loss, Parker shared her views with an old friend and Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade. On his podcast, the NBA star picked Parker’s brain to expand on her thoughts. She responded, “I know this day and age, parenting has changed. My daughter’s 14 and my son is 2. The mentality even in that amount of time, I’m sure has changed. But like, why would you teach your kid to be a good loser?”
Parker certainly has her parenting map in place. However, when it comes to herself, she said, “Now, can I handle myself and conduct myself cool and whatever? But I’mma be mad, why would you be happy losing?” Explaining her take, she said that if she gives her best to something and it does not end successfully, she can at least relinquish the results. While she may act cool, she believes that losing is not cool and the parents should not teach their kids to be okay with it.
