Despite winning the Finals MVP last year, A’ja Wilson has somehow found a way to get better. Perhaps her consistency was one of the driving forces behind Nike’s decision to make her a signature athlete. Following this, they didn’t waste much time in revealing the dynamic Aces No.22’s signature logo. Unlike her supporters, however, the design wasn’t impressive for many. So much so, that the 2x WNBA champion herself had no choice but to put an end to this questionable take.
The official page of Just Women’s Sports posted a very contentious video soon after Nike’s revelation last Saturday. The video features many women having a discussion on Wilson’s latest logo. While one thought that the logo is shaped like a vertebrae, others opined that it spelled like a** based on some media uploads. Consequently, this caught the attention of A’ja Wilson and she addressed it through a social media post on X.
Wilson wrote on X, “I get ppl are gonna have their opinions and think pieces & that’s all fine and dandy it’s all apart of it but this is lame asf coming from a site that suppose to be for “us” BUTTTTTTT Bet it up! the A collection is about to be so much fun and a great collection for everyone. The only “A**” I see are the ppl apart of this segment.”

Soon after, not only the fans, but Wilson’s teammates started extending their support as well. One of the notable comments was from the Aces’ No.7 Alysha Clark, who says, “I unfollowed them a while ago b/c they were on some weirdo stuff with how they talked about or celebrated certain players/teams.”
After witnessing such a backlash, the platform was forced to remove the video from all its social media accounts. WNBA Got Game was among the first to share this news on their official Instagram page.

Regardless, Nike didn’t take into account any negativity before the logo’s release. In fact, they had very commendable words to describe it.
Nike’s illustration of the A’ja Wilson signature logo
The sportswear giants had a very appreciative tone while revealing the logo. On their Nike Basketball social media accounts, they expressed, “A’ja Wilson’s star-shaped signature logo is inspired by her distinctive style, incredible performance, and unapologetic realness.”
In addition to this, the company has extended the credit behind its inspiration to the 5× WNBA All-Star. Apparently, Wilson showcased her creativity by sketching her ideas for the logo. Moreover, there was also a combination of things like “90’s style,” and “down to earth” written above the sketch. Themes of diamonds, dancing, and glamour were the other noticeable features.
Despite all the controversies, fans will be delighted with this latest off-court A’ja Wilson achievement. There is no denying that they were eagerly waiting for this to happen. It will be interesting to see what accolade transpires next for this phenomenal athlete.
