Cameron Brink's ACL injury—Will she come back stronger or is this a career-defining setback?

Just as Cameron Brink was starting to realize her professional dreams, a torn ACL injury shortened her rookie season. This major setback not only eclipsed her fairy tale beginning in the league but also drastically ended her chance to represent the USA’s 3×3 team at the Paris Olympics this July. Anyhow, prior to this unfortunate turn of events taking place in the life of the 2nd overall pick, she had some interesting deductions about her campaign till then.

There have been numerous discussions this WNBA season on how the rookie class has significantly affected the popularity surge of the sport. However, this also involves the possibility that it might be short-lived due to the limited attention span persisting among people. The 2024 Lisa Leslie Award winner in her recent interview with the popular art, fashion, film, music, media, and literature magazine Flaunt further elaborated this.

On sparing a thought or two about the recent “enthusiasm or hype around the sport,Brink told Flaunt Magazine, “It’s kind of groundbreaking. It’s just really exciting and honestly unfamiliar for me to have this much attention around women’s sports and women’s basketball, but we embrace it. We hope this momentum continues. There is a bit of fear, like, will people kind of hop off the bandwagon per se.”

The Los Angeles Sparks star pointed out some key insights to back her statement. She opines that there are two major components that can play a vital part in keeping this “momentum” alive. “I think it’s just a part of me hoping that me and these other women get the continued support of the media and fans because we work so hard. Our league has just kind of been. Not disrespected, but it’s not really familiar to us to have this amount of support.
