July 19 and 20. The WNBA All-Star team will compete in a game against Team USA apart from participating in the three-pointer and skill contest. For Erica Wheeler, this opportunity is not new. In 2019, she was a part of the WNBA All-Star team. However, the Indiana Fever’s 33-year-old guard and Caitlin Clark’s teammate got little time on the court this season. Hence, by being a part of the Skills Challenge she looks to enhance her reputation in the team and prove her mettle once again. But a major problem has put her participation in jeopardy.
Wheeler was selected to contribute her part in the Skills Challenge that will take place in Phoenix. However, due to a sudden Microsoft outage, she might not be able to make it in time for the Challenge on July 19. “Flight DELAYED! Y’all better not cancelled this flight to Phx @Delta I better not miss participating in the WNBA Skill Challenge 🙄 cause if I DO, I need $55K in flight credit or that Delta 360! Let’s talk about cause YAAAA,” Wheeler tweeted on Friday.

Wheeler’s performance this season has been average. She has been with the Indiana Fever since 2023, the same team that drafted the Clark in 2024 as the number one pick. She has scored a paltry 4.2 points per game this season and hence this opportunity that came with the WNBA All-Star game must have meant a lot for her since it would have revived her hopes for a comeback this season. And she sure has put the airlines on the line by dictating her terms.
Meanwhile, the skills challenge will feature Allisha Gray, Marina Mabrey, Brittney Griner, and Sophie Cunningham apart from Wheeler. The players will make their way through different obstacles while performing dribbling, passing as well as shooting. It is surely to attract a lot of attention and could be the platform that puts the participating athletes into the spotlight. However, as mentioned, this is not the first time that Wheeler would participate.
Erica Wheeler was a part of the WNBA 2019 All-Star team
Wheeler was a part of the 2019 WNBA All-Star team. She even then was a part of the Indiana Fever as she had a run with the team from 2016-19. She participated for the Eastern Conference All-Stars and eventually played for Team Wilson. Wheeler had then scored the highest points for Team Wilson in that game with an exceptional 25 points. Thus, she proved that she was deserving of the selection and caught a lot of limelight back then.
Team Wilson with Wheeler’s efforts eventually came forward to win the game against Team Delle Donne by a 129-126 margin. Hopefully, she will showcase a similar performance if she gets to participate in the Skills Challenge.

Her fans would be hoping that the issue soon sorts out, and she makes it to the Skill Challenge. And they would be expecting another exceptional performance from Wheeler this time. Hopefully, she will not disappoint viewers.
